Putin is, without doubt, a ruthless tyrant. He has already sacrificed over a million Russian lives and will try to win at any cost. I fear that if his bloody mindedness indeed pays off, Ukraine will fall almost overnight - leaving Europe in shock and the West, in general, in a far weaker position.

We appear to have an entrenched mindset in the West that puts the accumulation of material wealth above all else. That being the case, why would the ruling classes want to properly invest in anything that risks undermining the system that prioritises GDP (& their own wealth) over the environment?

The worry is that, once backed into a corner, they will likely see war as their only means of escape.
