It’s already been 10 years since I anxiously dove into the world of modular. Anxious because I spent too much on something I didn’t fully understand. And TBH I was overwhelmed for the most of the first year. But I stuck with it and wow it’s been such a rewarding hobby! #eurorack #synthsky

To give a sense of the size of the campus at Norwich State Hospital, the structure with stacks outside the window in this shot was the power station for the hospital complex. It was essentially a small village. #urbex #norwich #norwichstatehospital

I knew there was a large theater on the campus at Norwich. What I didn’t realize is that it wasn’t on the ground floor. I never found it on that first visit, which was disappointing. I later learned that I was in the building, but below the theater. This shot was from there. #urbex #norwich

Another from my first time at Norwich State Hospital. Before going, explorer friends had given me critical info on how to approach the property. Once you gain entry to a building on the main campus, access to underground tunnels allows movement between buildings without being seen. #urbex #norwich

Going back to June 2008. My first “big” explore of a legendary location, Norwich State Hospital in CT. Went in by myself, extremely nervous, had to dodge the well-known security. Super hot that day and I nearly overheated in the sealed up buildings, but SO worth it. #urbex #norwich

And finally, here is the last magnificent loom at Scranton Lace. Imported from Nottingham, England, there were once 5 in this room. I’m told this one is now scrapped. Amazingly, a small bit of lace remained in 2016 when this was shot. Imagine the sound when they all ran! #scrantonlace #urbex #loom

More shots from Scranton Lace. The employee basketball court was another fascinating find. Imagine a business in the US today having such facilities. #urbex #scrantonlace

They actually did make lace as Scranton Lace, and despite years of being abandoned, some traces of this are left behind. The Jacquard loom punchcards are particularly interesting. A now ancient high-tech solution to automating lace manufacturing, encoding the lace pattern in a machine-readable card.

A couple more from Scranton Lace. The buildings there were clearly from different eras. Some were mid century industrial concrete, while others were brick and wood, which I assume are early 1900s. #urbex #scrantonlace

Two exterior shots from my 2016 explore of Scranton Lace. These should give some impression of the size of this facility. These are the only two exteriors I shot, since I didn’t want to be spotted on the property. #scrantonlace #urbex #abandoned

From a 2016 explore in Pennsylvania. This is the former Scranton Lace factory. A massive city block complex with dozens of buildings all interconnected in Byzantine ways. One of the cool features there was this employee bowling alley.

From an enormous psychiatric hospital in New Jersey, charmingly named “Greystone”. This structure is long since torn down. This building was one of the famous “Kirkbride” style, conceived to help alleviate mental illness via architecture. #urbex #abandoned #kirkbride

A bit of a sketch that is taking shape. Based on a multi-layered drone I created on the modular, and since expanded on with other synths and multiple sequencers. There are looping part, but they have a lot of randomness inbuilt.

My compatriot on this exploring by trip, Amy, took a photo of me when I was setting up this shot at an abandoned nuclear plant in TN. One of my favorite places I ever visited, the insane scale of this place and the brutalist, purely functional aesthetic were super fascinating.

Another previous-life exploring photo. This one is from Norwich State Hospital in CT. A huge campus which included multiple theaters, bowling alley, dozens of buildings to house patients. All since razed.

I was struggling to find a good lead sound for this. At the same time, I had just put my Minilogue up for sale because I hadn’t used it for years. While testing the ML to sell it, I hit upon the sound I was looking for! Needless to say I’m not selling it now!

Another from 2013. I never posted any from this room because I was disappointed with how they turned out. I felt as if my compositions were all off, and didn’t do justice to this amazing find in the attic of this asylum in TN. I don’t love this one, but it’s the best of them.

A photo from an abandoned asylum in South Carolina. Taken in 2013. I have been going through some of my old photos, this one was additionally processed on my phone.
