More snowfall through the night in Orkney but with the sun finally making an appearance ...holy moly, breathtaking ❤️

Good morning from Orkney. Schools closed for the day. Nothing happening out there at 9.40am. But beautiful ❤️

Plenty of powdery snow and wind on Orkney at the moment which means staying out. Roads drifting as soon as they're cleared. Gorgeous light though.

Barely a soul on our wee Skaill beach meander this afternoon. Tony finally exudes festive cheer with the help of Birsay Tearoom neon signage.

That's the barriers going up in Kirkwall in preparation for this year's 'Ba'. An epic sporting battle between the 'Uppies' and 'Doonies', literally two halves of the town play for the 'ba' and rather beautiful hand crafted hefty leather ball. The whole town is given over to the spectacle.

Eternal whirlwind of lovers in Hell. At least they have each other! Fab illustration to Dante's Divine Comedy by William Blake, who was born on this day in 1757.

A little bit of cloud obscuring, but the sun is just about setting between the paps of Hoy now. Still a month until the shortest day to go.

We've had unseasonably warm air sitting over us these past few days, stuck between a high and a low pressure bringing the haar (sea fog). As beautiful as it is, our vitamin D levels are taking a bit of a hit.

Quite a clamour of rooks at dusk. Now autumn has well and truly arrived in Orkney the rooks congregate, reel and roost in large numbers.

It was a gorgeous commute by boat early Wednesday morning. It did mean a 5.30am rise and a drive in the dark but worth it. Barely a pitch or a roll and Stronsay was enveloped in a stunning light.

Gorgeous walk up the hill track behind our field. Cracking view of Hoy, some unfamiliar flora, heady scent of Heather blossom, butterflies galore. Joyous.
