I think the only people who should talk to a coach during game time are players and refs (and their assistant coaches, if they have them) - unless there is an emergency.

So NOT ok!!!!! Recommend he check out one of the truly better clubs in the area whose coaches honestly care about their players.

In my family, we joke that none of us can go a full day without looking at a map, normally an "old fashioned " paper map or atlas.

I did that for my wedding. Told my in-laws the wedding was 30 minutes earlier than it really was so they would be on time. They weren't offended because there isn't a link between time and courtesy/respect in their culture. (There is in my family.)
