@khleedril for me, it's the link generation. I generate a link, I share it, and then it doesn't work. I have to scramble to generate a new one as people wait.

Is it just me, or has #zoom become buggier and less reliable in the last few months for anyone else?

(Standard Fediverse request: please don't tell me about alternatives to Zoom. I run some. I know what they are. Thank you)

@[email protected] I will echo this same offer for up to two communities! I'll do the install, maintenance, upkeep, and keep the lights on. I have the automation to be able to run any of these:
- Mastodon
- Pixelfed
- GoToSocial
- Sharkey
- Akkoma
- Bonfire

And for that matter if anyone […]

I have an offer to make: do you want to run an instance on the fediverse for a group that's underrepresented here?

I'll pay the bills. Period.

I'll do admin if needed (software updates and the like). But you decide what kind of community you want it to be, so you put together the mod team.

DM me.

Because we need more #dogsofmastodon, here is Agnes.

"On the Web, marketers leverage this kind of information to better target their ads. Perhaps alternative rock fans could receive ads for nonfiction books written by liberal authors, while country music fans could receive ad for books by conservative authors." Schwartz, Webonomics (1997)

[Daily random quote out of context from my academic book about Mastodon]

The biggest indicator of the success of ActivityPub is that it survived the stress-test of millions of new people signing up in the wake of Musk’s purchase of Twitter. As I discussed in the previous chapter, those new […]

There is another reason to refer to Mastodon as noncentralized: Mastodon isn’t the only federated social media available. In his 2018 eruption, Rochko pointed to “the alternatives.” He wasn’t telling people to go back to […]

[Bluesky news, racism]

Please don't pretend that fedi is some bastion of progressiveness in opposition to bluesky. Yes the CEO is very bad and they're basically centralized, but fedi is super racist too. Don't let bluesky's fuck ups make you forget ours. If we want a social media that's […]

In 2015, there was a tremendous amount of anger over Facebook’s emotional contagion study. Facebook researchers partnered with academics at Cornell and the University of California—San Francisco to study how emotion-laden […]

And smack-dab in the middle is one blaring about Trump and conservatism and how the woke left is destroying everything.

Like, how tf is that related? It's literally the opposite. The only explanation is YouTube kowtowing to Trumpism.

I don't use YouTube much at all. I don't sign in, I do my best to delete cookies, I use VPNs when I do bring it up, and a whole host of adblockers and Javascript blockers.

For a reason I won't go into, I received a link to a mindfulness video from someone. I went to the link. Along the side […]

@riverpunk I do my very, very best to avoid too much technical (and academic) jargon.

For example, one thing I did was use the metaphor of email to describe the fediverse, hoping that familiar example would help. I have a chapter on the development of ActivityPub, but it's very focused on the […]

Most American Jews I know are horrified by Netanyahu's war crimes, sickened that it's been done in our name, appalled by Nazi-MAGA's fascist policies undertaken in the name of combating anti-Semitism, and terrified by the anti-Jewish backlash from our friends on the left.

We talk about it a lot […]

The canceling of ICEBlock is more evidence, were any needed, that the Web is the platform of the future, the only platform without a controlling vendor. Anything controversial should be available through a pure browser interface.

surely some comedian is writing jokes about the shutdown being an excellent way to avoid voting on releasing the Epstein files right now
rwg.aoir.social.ap.brid.gy
This is probably a dumb question, but can't ICE Block be reimplemented as a website?

With Apple doing this, and Google's Android severly restricting side loading, it seems to me people ought to start bulding websites again.
