It that never occurred to me until this week that famous Dryden's pose looked very casual from the stands - and in all the photos we've seen - than it would have from the ice. How many forwards looked up ice, saw Hockey Heimdall waiting for them, and opted for a dump-in and change?
Canadiens goaltender Ken Dryden, in am undated photo, stands in his crease with his hands propped on the top of his stick. He did this a lot, and from the side - where most people saw it - it looked very casual. Very relaxed. This angle, from ice level, gives an idea of what it must have been like to be an opposing forward exiting their zone, looking up ice, and realising they were not doing to score. From the stands, the pose is casual, from the ice, it's almost disdainful. Me? I'd take one look at this dude and dale am injury.
