Note that once approval ratings start going down, they trend basically never reverses. Trump will remain politically weak and likely become politically weaker. There is no political downside to opposing authoritarianism.

Even if this were not explicitly prohibited by the United States Constitution, it means we kidnapped Venezuela's President and are now extorting money with the threat of future harm.

Reading about this idea and as somebody who thinks it is not a bad instinct from an ethical perspective, it still reveals how much the choice of Bari Weiss to run CBS was a bizarre politically motivated choice, rather than one based on optimizing ratings. Americans don't want to watch this stuff.

If Congress ever takes up law-making again, I suggest they repeal the ability of the President to designate foreign terrorist organizations.
