Welcome, new Blooskers!
So many of you fine folks just followed me through starter packs, so you may not know who the heck I am or what the heck I do!

I'm an artist, author and adventurer who travels the world making comics.

the known reason why no special meal were provided. Mr. Yoon himself ordered to cut budget on jail when he was in office.

As nice as the review was, it was not our favorite thing in The Korea Times this week.

No holiday feasts for fascists.

The article explains they were not even allowed apples, but were allowed to watch tv in their respective common rooms, which were playing Back to the Future II.
An article from The Korea Times that says "former president Yoon and his wife Kim Keon Hee spent their first Chuseok in jail without any soecial meal.

Three books about the freedom to read to check out at your local library for Banned Books Week!

I'm drawing Anti-fascist barnyard animals for every selfie someone posts with my new book.

Yeah, this is just a hand, but I love Comix Experience, and visit when I'm in San Francisco, so I'll count it just this once.

Here's a Protester Pig telling book banners to get their hoofs off our books. 🐖
A shot of the interior of the comics experience bookstore in San Francisco. The wall says new comics and in front of a shelf. Someone is holding up a copy of good old fashioned Korean spirit. My crayon drawing of a cute little cartoon pig holding up a protest sign that says get your hoofs off our books. There are various pig themed books sitting around and the pig says let's take to the streets and stop by comics experience for more comics.

The reviews are in, and the haters be hatin'!
A comment on an article about my new book that reads "Communists rewriting Korean history culture and tradition to prove Korea is communist? Like when they tried to convince the world Jesus is communist?" I replied "bro, what?"

Yeeeeees!
This is my favorite way for folks to get their hands on my books!

So insanely cool that I got to submit a purchase request for Good Old-Fashioned Korean Spirit by Kim Hyun Sook and @ryanestrada.com to my local library.

I already mentioned that I'll draw antifascist barnyard animals for anyone who posts a Good Old Fashioned Korean Spirit book selfie, but if you post an animal pic, I'll draw that animal!

Here's Brie and Cheddar, Book Club Cats. Reading is resistance!
Cheddar and Brie, a big grumpy cat and a small cutesy cat, looking grumpy about having to sit next to a copy of my book, Good Old Fashioned Korean Spirit. A drawing of the same two cats reading "Before we were Brie" and "It gets Cheddar."

This one was extra special for me to write, because I actually got to visit the farm where it takes place many times... And I incorporated some of my own experiences into the story.

Whenever you see a character do something really, really dumb, it was probably me who really did it.

I'm so glad people are enjoying our book. It's about a bunch of city kids forced to spend the night on a spooky old persimmon farm, but secretly we use that setup to tell a lot of different stories about life under fascism. Don't tell the cops.

It's our book birthday!!!

Good Old Fashioned Korean Spirit is finally out there in the world! Hyun Sook and I are so proud and excited to share this book with you! Get it at your local bookstore, local library, or wherever you get books!

Never apologize for showing me a cat.

Adorable! (to be clear, I did mean I'd draw in response to pics of pets with our book... but I'm always happy to look at pet pics!)

"Good Old-Fashioned Korean Spirit works because it makes these long-ago events and the struggle for democracy feel personal — maybe that's why the contents have been so disturbing to book banners in the U.S."
-Jon Dunbar, The Korea Times.

The context is that that guy is a child who overheard the word does not know how to pronounce it or what it means. The kids learn about propaganda and self mythologizing over the course of the book.

Spoiler: they didn't.

I hope that the fact that I have brought 22 distinct stories to this extremely specific and embarrassingly themed show illustrates that I have a lot of stories on every topic and am ready for any storytelling opportunity... and doesn't just make it look like I have poo problems.
ryanestrada.com
I tend to tell the same stories a lot on podcasts.

But not this one.

For my third time on this poo story podcast, I play story roulette again with 12 new stories I have never told and will never again. For very good reason.

Warning: some are cute. Some are disgusting. Some are horrifying.

The James Olman Presidential Library may or may not be a barely-fictionalized version of the Reagan Library, which is not the library that I am talking about when I say libraries are cool.
ryanestrada.com
If you just watched Last Week Tonight's segment on how presidential libraries are propaganda and thought "but what if this was an action-adventure comedy for kids?" boy have I got the book for you.
