Dennis Fano designs beautiful guitars. The all look novel, but also totally natural, like they’ve been on the market since the early 1960s.

Ghost of Johnny Cash???

… for when George Van Eps is feeling metal.

I’ve played guitar off and on for thirty years and can count the number of times I’ve restrung without drawing blood on one band-aid wearing hand. Goddamn B string stabs me every time.

More than a hint, less than a dash. Everyone knows that.

My mom cooked like that. When my sister and I were younger, she would quiz us on ‘what’s in the soup?’ By the time we had left home, we had learned how to reverse engineer a basic recipe.

No quantities / volumes?!? Minimal instruction assumes you have solid kitchen techniques, but assuming that a reader can calculate baking ingredient ratios basically assumes they’ve worked in professional kitchens!

For the frying, or as an ingredient? Peanut oil has a fairly high smoke point IIRC, which may be relevant.

I understand it’s the holidays, and folks want to impress, but isn’t FIVE choices a little much for a cheese board?!? Save some room for the grapes and fig paste, amirite?

GTFO. That concert will never happen again. It is art that you can be part of while it happens and will never be experienced by anyone ever again. Maybe it’s not great and the sound guy phoned it in or the singer is getting sick and you bug out early… but you gotta at least try!

I’m having a panic attack just thinking about laying out that wiring harness….

We had all the SubPop singles on the pool hall jukebox when I was in college. I shudder to think what they would be worth now.

It’s the polar opposite of my Gretsch, which as a cheap ‘50s arch top is all woofy mids, and obscenely loud for something without an amp attached to it.

Yes, C for cut out, E for electric. First Gibson flat top with a pickup, and a rare for Gibson Florentine cut. It was delicate, well balanced. Paul Simon, Jackson Browne and Dylan all played them at some point.1/

I find it hilarious that J. Mascis is a collector of this model.
December 18, 2025 at 5:14 PM
So her first guitars were a ‘56 Kalamazoo made Gibson, and my ‘54 Brooklyn made Gretsch. I don’t think she had the perspective to appreciate that at 16, but hopefully one day she will.

The guitar was not my vibe, but the P90 was close to magical. When my high school aged daughter got bored out of her mind during COVID, she picked it up and taught herself to be a decent finger picker. 2/

I had the insane good fortune to be custodian of one of these rare beasts (a 1956 IIRC) for several years. A good friend inherited one from a deceased uncle who was “kind of a guitar hoarder.” No one in their household played and they thought it should be getting used, so I ended up with it. 1/

When I lived in SE Portland I had to walk all of six blocks to vote. I could vote for the Socialist of my choice before work and STILL have time to get a single origin organic coffee from my favorite blue haired barista.
December 18, 2025 at 5:01 AM
I would LOVE to have hard numbers on how vote by mail has affected turn out in the redder parts of the state. Harney County is bigger than SIX states. How much driving do you have to commit to doing to cast your ballot in a non- vote by mail scenario? 1/

…and now all I can think about is how delicious a bison asada fry bread taco would be.

I’m just curious how they’re going to blame declining game population on immigrants.

There’s probably a pretty select audience for that joke, but I appreciate it…
