witnessed both sides of the human soul at the Prince Charles yesterday (very therapeutic sign to giggle at after seeing CURE, what a doozy)

coming out as a Mescal in Gladiator defender. people are being too quick to say he's trying too hard to be the same character as Crowe was; he's not! his performance is a much more nervy, sometimes eerily unhinged one. the speeches feel a bit detached because the character is unsure of himself!

overjoyed to report this has been surprised by a line reading in the actual Roman Empire movie, in which Denzel is peerless in grand sets full of also very good actors
it's a kind of thankless role in a straightforward film, but I will always have a soft spot for INSIDE MAN. "Thank you, bank robber!" is my Roman Empire line reading
Most underrated Denzel, I’ll start

MAY DECEMBER: persona remade under the influence of mumsnet posters and true crime podcast devotees. can't say that glowingly enough! a deeply funny yet utterly haunting piece of camp that elicits equal parts cringe and empathy. helps melton is the real deal; devastatingly sad performance!

today was a doozy: scorsese followed by hamaguchi. can't shake how the two films are in a delicate dance with each other about the spectre of communal violence; one overt, visceral, brimming with generational anguish. the other holds a quiet pain, lingering and lurking in the shadows of the trees.
