Second #book of the year! The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.
First time reading #horror. Really enjoyed it— characterization (tension in dialogue/actions) and writing choices (shown vs kept hidden) take center stage here.

Definitely a product of its time with some handling of events/some descriptions here and there. Ultimately a great read.

My song association for this book is “Pink Sky” by Loma. The dreamy yet almost uncanny sound paired with the surreal image of a pink sky fits the reality altering world of TLOH.
First book of the year. The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula K Le Guin. Super captivating. Simple, yet massive concept of a dreamer whose dreams come true…one way or another. So far everything I’ve read by LeGuin is just incredible prose. Her precision and creativity with language is astounding.

“home with you” by FKA twigs was on my Spotify wrapped top songs and it reminded me how amazing the song is, I think it’s such a hit and got overshadowed by “cellophane” despite also being a masterpiece

Yea I guess knowing the context that bred people’s hate for the trope, I can appreciate the impact that had and why people just don’t want to see it at all. Totally fair. Maybe we just need to retire it for a generation so people forget about its egregious misuse 😅
Many people hate the it was all just a dream trope exactly because neither cast and crew knew Duffy would return and it erased a whole season.

One infamous misuse of the “it was all a dream trope” and people are, uncritically in my opinion, convinced that any application of the #trope is immediately bad. I see people take issue whenever the trope is used, but I think the writers each time handled it pretty well #writing #media

received this recently as a (prerequested 😉) gift… so excited to experience the same poetry in both my languages— the question is, what insights or experiences change reading the original vs the translation

also maybe a lesson for my own fledgling and malnourished translation work

text based social media is so challenging—no visual to back it up or give purpose. relying solely on what you say to be good enough, to be worth it to a viewer. i guess something to work on by just posting.

not to mention character count which isn’t an issue on my native tumblr
