Amateur artist and writer. Also, a massive fighting game fan.
I love Mortal Kombat, despite its ups and downs, but even I can admit that there are assholes who push things too far.

Also, they whine hard over a character not being in a game, and they go as far as to threaten Ed Boon and the people officially involved with the games (remember how Mileena fans bitched and moaned over her initial absence in MK11 before she was eventually put back in?).

If you ship a non-canon pairing like Liu Kang x Sonya? Then you're apparently an idiot to them because "it has to be Liu Kang x Kitana, or Johnny Cage x Sonya".

If you like something the fandom doesn't like, or vice versa (ex.: if you like the movies or hate the story modes from the later games), you are almost guaranteed to have an incoming flame war.

While this didn't piss me off as badly as something like the MKX story, Khaos Reigns still left a lot to be desired. And honestly, the fact that this was not very impressive further makes me less excited for the MK2 movie.

That's just me though.

While I had my problems with MK11: Aftermath, that story DLC at least capped off MK11's story in a bigger way, and you legit had some good parts like Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa returning to voice Shang Tsung.

And the story DLC just ends. This honestly felt more like a mid-point chapter than a true expansion that caps off the story.

Titan Havik was a nothing villain. He gets washed very easily near the end, and he was hyped up as this big threat at the end of the base game story.

I get that the franchise was indeed inspired and influenced by comics from the likes of Marvel and DC, but the best incarnations of MK still had a strong and unique identity that made MK what it was.

Khaos Reigns, on the other hand? It did not do much for me.

The presentation is top notch, sure, but that's a given with most NRS fighting games.

Watching the whole story DLC, it felt less like Mortal Kombat, and more like a generic MCU knock-off, but with the MK characters and gore.

Sure, it mostly falls apart when it resorts to the typical MCU Multiverse bullshit in the latter half of the story, but it legit had strong character moments, especially when compared to something as overrated as the MKX story.

Normally, I am very critical of the NRS story modes for how they handle certain plot points, characters and details of the lore.

With that being said, I didn't hate the base game story for New MK1.

I did not pay for the story DLC...mostly because I was able to see it online, and even then, this left me feeling empty. Plus, I'm not risking paying an extra amount of money just for a story DLC that is otherwise underwhelming.
