Yeah, and I think that's a habit much better cultivated when you're part of the dogpiling mob. "Am I yielding to those passions that make a community bond over the persecution of an outsider?"
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
As much as they've repeatedly criticised article 49.3 they'd be awfully tempted to use it given this no-compromise posturing
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
The present crisis is frustrating because as much as Macron is abusing his presidential powers by refusing to give the left a chance, the latter aren't helping themselves when they keep saying "btw we expect total surrender from you macronists"
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
I had just read it and she's indeed rejecting a government with macronists. I would've loved a follow-up question of "so how do you vote a budget"
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
Come on. That reason may well be racism or some other bigotry. Lynch mobs, witch burning, etc.
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
I hope he's not stupid and appoints someone from the left.
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
They're against any compromise with a non-left-wing party. They think they benefit from the continuation of the crisis, because of their anti-system attitude.
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
In conclusion, they're clearly angling for a closer collaboration with the far right. They clearly hate them less than even the mainstream left.
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
It's them taking an incredibly hard line on immigration that's the main reason for the Lecornu government to be still born. He didn't even have the opportunity to start a negotiation with the left.
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
Then they refused to endorse non-RN candidates in the 2nd round of the legislative elections. In a by-election now, they've advised against voting for the quite tame PS candidate running against the RN!
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
Let's not forget the huge role the centre-right LR has played in the current French political crisis.

It's their threat to no-confidence the government that made Macron panic and dissolve the National Assembly. They were hardline despite Macron's clear willingness to compromise to his right!
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
But they're clearly also suffering from the current crisis. If the system's not working it's obviously the parties that talk about burning it down that benefit
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
Any technical government would be relentlessly attacked by the RN and LFI though. Probably LR too
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
Is he trying to take a page from Italy with a technical government
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
Frankly this is a terrible point to compromise on because it will kill all the budget maneuvering space of a post-Macron government. It's already hard enough to close a budget
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
Borne (aka the very PM that forced through the reform without a vote) made some noises in that direction, but the idea was immediately clamped down by other macronists.
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
Of course the issue is the looming presidential election, no one wants to have the albatros of an inevitably unpopular government hanging around their neck heading into that election.

Maybe the solution is indeed for Macron to resign to get that out of the way.

Re: the French political crisis

I just checked and the centrist+reasonable left* have almost but not quite a majority. Government should hold as most independents stay at least neutral. Maybe worth a try?

*Reasonable left excludes LFI but does include the communists
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
Please read the thread. I'm talking about the long term averages.
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
Trolley cars with IMC when?
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
But like, it's been amply demonstrated for the last year that you can't do much with the presidency if you don't have a legislative majority. It's high time to get a more realistic plan
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
That's been Mélenchon's plan all along, yeah.

In Macron's defense, he would've won *any* head-to-head against the other candidates. Most definitely against Méluche lol
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
They already somewhat tested the formula with Barnier
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
LFI is playing a dangerous game because by being so hyperbolically hostile to compromise they're functionally begging for a centre-right/far-right agreement. I'm sure many elements of RN would love to position themselves as reasonable partners à la Meloni
ryukyu-hsr.bsky.social
Honestly PS/EELV can get *some* votes out of the left-leaning middle class that's unsatisfied by Macron and doesn't want to burn the system down.
