Taylor, happy to talk about our approach. This was an incredibly exhaustive project for a newsroom of our size. The reality is ACC does not have the budget to put 10 people on a story series. We don't have a research arm. So we talk to experts and use technology to help us sift through data.

Our top non-election story of 2024 made the rounds in education, nonprofit, and government circles. This story was also a great example of how our newsroom relies on data to help paint a clearer picture of a particular challenge: 12,000 metro Atlanta students are homeless.
Nearly 12,000 metro Atlanta public school students are unhoused
Nearly 2% of the 631,274 public school students in the five-county metro area are living on the streets, in shelters or extended-stay motels, doubled up with other families, or couch-surfing.
