But take note! Interneuron subtypes are not uniform! Yet, their molecular identity biases their functional role, producing weighted circuit outputs that can flexibly regulate excitatory projection neuron activity and plasticity.

Intriguingly, VIP and SST interneurons show distinct dynamics: VIPs encode salient cues, SSTs additionally track behavioural states. This indicates a functional segregation: some interneurons care about associative cues, others integrate internal states to shape fear expression and extinction.

I can also recommend "Paper Reviewing". Pick a recent bioRxiv publication, divide the team into authors and reviewers, and ask them to write (and present) reviews (meeting 1) and a rebuttal (meeting 2, two weeks later). Really helps to see that there are actually humans on the other side, too.
