I keep noticing on the AI discourse is the focus on productivity. I need to get writing a post on this specifically, because on this topic, ever since a RustFest 2019 talk, I have been radicalised on this.

Why must we get faster? Why do we keep burning ourselves out and for what exactly?

Spicy take: LLMs are the 21st century's version of smoking vs non-smoking debate.

Yeeting facet AND kdl from my config crate for my pico firmware, embracing toml_edit and just doing my parsing and output manually.

Run from it, dread it, toml arrives all the same. (1/2)

Hmm. After immersing myself in bsky and looking at mastodon, I am pretty convinced that this form of social media is bad for any topic needing nuance. Too polarising and quickly spirals into purity testing.

Bring back forums. Gods, I miss the 00's and early 10's...

Hell yeah! My #tui app for monitoring lightning detection data from my Pico W board is working nicely. Working with #bevy for the ECS/app structure and #ratatui for the rendering has been pretty nice. Still a lot more features to implement.

I had a thought. Does a markov chain count as tainted genAI? It's like a proto LLM, though several orders of magnitude less computationally expensive to run. Does that mean my anti AI scraper tool tangled.org/sachy.dev/na... is tainted?

Purity tests/discourse can be very funny/weird/strange...

Hmm, ratatui tables kinda... are not great. Anyone got better suggestions om how to do nice tabular layouts with #ratatui? Maybe I am missing something from the docs (also, I am now tainted from using tainted code)

Anti-fascistic software is made possible by pro-labor licensing.

I've been trying to write this piece for years. Every time I get started I'm just overwhelmed with paralyzing visions of the FOSS commentariat accusing me of WrongThink.

But I'm tired and we urgently need to get our shit together.

We have to talk about open source licensing.

After seeing "that list", what i will say is, I know I can't avoid all vibecoded stuff, but frankly, if I had to choose between vibecoded and non-vibecoded software, i will pick the latter. I prefer my bugs to be artisinally crafted. My computer must be ruined by human hands only.

Remember folks, in times where your views are against authoritarian governments or the hierarchical status quo, anything you say in anger and frustration will be used to violently suppress you.

So instead of speaking, organise and act.

Success! Yak shave complete. I can now discover my lightning detector on the network via mDNS Service Discovery. Now onto other things...

Filling my feed with comf and nice things to distract me from the shitty state of the world.

Meanwhile, I gotta test out my continued mDNS yak shaving. If all goes well, I might just spend time creating my own full DNS crate...

Update: mDNS shenanigans continues. I think I broke a dns-protocol crate with a valid DNS response. Whoops~

So, which one will happen first? The AI bubble popping or WWIII?
