Hmmm, if you’re DICTATING how a country will be run, what does that make you? Hmmmm?
Q: Trump has been adamant that he's in charge of Venezuela, but Delcy Rodríguez says she's running the country. So which is it?

LEAVITT: We obviously have maximum leverage over the interim authorities. Their decisions are going to continue to be dictated by the United States of America.

The ICE murder was so tragically predictable, as are the lies being spread afterward.

They callously murdered a mother of 3 who posed no threat to anyone, least of all them.

Just saw that there MARTY SUPREME and really enjoyed it, but stopped short of loving it.

Now I need a lie down. Chalamet must have slept for a month when shooting was done.

A ★★★½ review of Marty Supreme (2025)
The first hour: awesome.  The middle hour: ridiculous, over the top and exhausting.  The final thirty minutes: awesome again.  So my score is based on a star for each fifth that rocks, plus an extra h...

I gave blood recently fur the first time in years and I put down that I was B Negative, cos I could remember it by how my attitude was.

Turns out I’m actually B Positive.

I guess my outlook has changed a lot in the last decade…

#NowWatching VIGILANTE (1982)

Starting with Fred Williamson delivering a state of the nation speech and co-starring a young Robert Forster, this is very much my jam, I suspect.

From the director of Maniac, William Lustig.

I watch a lot of Pluto TV and this ad always winds me up.

I hate everything about it. Especially that guy’s chin, for some reason.

Just a reminder: in the UK, we don’t elect a leader; we elect a party.
Laura Kuenssberg, "Do you worry it appears that voters haven't warmed to you?"

Keir Starmer, "I was elected in 2024 with a 5 year mandate to change the country that's what I intend to do"

The sooner there's a vote of no confidence in Keir Starmer, the better. Labour have 4 yrs to turn this around

Dear Americans,

If this really is not who are, rise up and show the rest of the world.

You have all you need to remove him from office and bury him beneath the prison. Not doing so due to precedent is simply not good enough anymore.

The world is watching.

Cheers,

#NowWatching MILLER’S CROSSING

Maybe among the greatest pre-credits scenes of all time. The whole narrative tension is established, we know the key players and the dialogue is electric.

Still top-tier Coens - as in top three - in my book.

Not feeling the latest #TheTraitors so far. Anyone else?

Maybe the celebrity series was too recent, but it isn’t clicking for me this time out. And not because of the secret traitor gimmick.

Maybe we just need more of Jessie.

The “Candidate of Peace” just started an illegal war to distract from accusations of paedophilia.

The American dream, y’all.

From #letterboxd 2025 stats, neither of these were by design, but I like them.

A ★★★½ review of The Roses (2025)
Not as darkly delicious as Danny De Vito’s 1989 version, this is nevertheless quite a bit of fun.  Given a huge update and filing down some of the truly sharper edges, this makes up for it by having a...

Far more interesting, to me: the first time watches of films from previous years. Some big gaps filled this year and a few wonderful surprises.

A quick recap of 2025 in film.

First, my top 20 new watches. A good year for horror, if nothing else.

I couldn’t let that be my last film of the year.

So I watched THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS for the first time.

This could have been set in 2025. Which is depressing, but a testament to its brilliance.

It is entirely possible that MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE (1987) may end up being my final film of 2025. I don’t know why or how we got here, it’s aggressively amateurish (some design elements aside), but I can’t turn it off.

Nostalgia can be a bitch.

#NowWatching WHEN HARRY MET SALLY…

One of my all-time favourite films and tied for best romcom (with The Apartment), I needed a comfort watch and this fit the bill.

Ellis pounding a rail, finding his ‘confidence’ to negotiate and then opening with, “Sprechen sie talk?” is never not hilarious.

Hart Bochner is so awesome in this film.
Starting Xmas day with coffee and Die Hard. It really is just perfect.

I’ve particularly always loved Willis’s choices, like not shouting in his monotone confrontation with Holly, or the desperate pain he’s going through while telling Powell that he might not make it.

Merry Xmas all.
