Day 7 of sharing a bug themed #mtg card for #invertefest!
For our final card of this event, I bring you: Sweet-Gum Recluse! A card I fell in love with a few years agon when I was assembling what would become my signature EDH deck. Do you play any bugs in your commander deck?
Sweet-Gum Recluse is a green Magic card. The art features a large brown spider sitting in its web. It's abdomen is filled with orange eggs, and some eggs are also tangled in the web beneath it. The text reads: Flash Cascade Reach When Sweet-Gum Recluse enters the battlefield, put three +1/+1 counters on each of any number of target creatures that entered the battlefield this turn.

Day 6 of posting one invertebrate themed #mtg card for #invertefest !
Today it's the elusive and mysterious Man-o'-war. Named after its real life counterpart, and like many other jellyfish in Magic, has a blink ability!
Man-o'-war is a blue Magic: the gathering card. The art is of a beautiful jellyfish with very long, ethereal arms. The image is entirely in shades of blue and very dreamlike and ethereal. It does not resemble an actual real life man-o'-war much. Apologies for missing a day, I was beset by the horrors. But we are back at it with day 5 of posting an invertebrate themed #mtg card every day for #invertefest! And, to make up for the lost day, you get TWO evil phyrexian mosquitoes.
Pestilent Syphoner is a black magic card. The art features a black and red colored insect creature that looks like a fly with bat wings and has a long siphoning mouthpart like a mosquito. It is currently "biting" into a very large phyrexian (?) that is white and bright red. The text reads: Flying Toxic 1 (Players dealt combat damage by this creature also get a poison counter.) The praetors of the other Spheres privately wonder how Sheoldred always has a surplus of glistening oil at her disposal. Pestilent souleater is an artifact magic card. The art is of a sort of pillbug creature with very spiky limbs that oozes a sort of green substance. In the background is a forest corrupted by phyresis. The text reads: {B/P} : This creature gains infect until end of turn. ({B/P} can be paid with either {B} or 2 life. A creature with infect deals damage to creatures in the form of -1/-1 counters and to players in the form of poison counters.)

Day 3 of posting an invertebrate-themed magic card for #invertefest: Mazirek, Kraul death priest. The Kraul are a sentient species of insect that lives in the catacombs, sewers and cellars beneath the city of Ravnica.
Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest is a gold (multicolor) magic: the gathering card. The art features Mazirek, who is an insectoid creature that looks like mixture of phasmid and mantis. He is mostly brown and green, with some bright yellow spots on the joints of his legs. His head has markings that resemble a skull. He holds a gnarly looking shaman staff and stands atop a moss and algae covered rock in the undercity of Ravnica. The text reads: Flying Whenever a player sacrifices another permanent, put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control. The clicks and buzz of the undercity proclaim him the incarnation of decay.

Today's card is Luminous Broodmoth. There's a theme among butterfly/caterpillar creatures - they often have transformative abilities, reflecting dramatic change that is insect metamorphosis.
Luminous Broodmoth, a white Magic: The Gathering card. The card art features a large white and yellow moth flying across a night sky. The full moon sits directly behind it's head, making for an ethereal halo effect. The text reads: Flying Whenever a creature you control without flying dies, return it to the battlefield under its owner’s control with a flying counter on it. It soars through currents of moonbeams to give hope to the forsaken.

This #invertefest I'm going to highlight one invertebrate-themed magic: the gathering card and share some fun facts.
Day 1: Scute Swarm! The iconic card that multiplies itself, mimicking an insect swarm.
I think my highest number of scutes in a game was ~20.
Scute Swarm is a green Magic the gathering card. The art represents a mass of oversized beetles modeled after the rhinocreous beetle but bigger, with more spikes and bright green eyes and "horn". They look particularly menacing. The text on the card reads: landfall - whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control create a 1/1 green Insect creature token. If you control six or more lands, create a token that’s a copy of this creature instead. “Survival rule 782: There are always more scute bugs.” —Zurdi, goblin shortcutter
