have used this before in Discordkit, but it is kinda fragile integrating with tooling (Typescript and ESLint), especially in a monorepo

hope it gets better though!

I mean those are alright too, but man the movie theater experience in Japan was consistently incredible everywhere I went. I would go all the time compared to once in a blue moon here in the US

it's also worth noting that the prior art that Pluribus draws on, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, was a social commentary on American fears of Communism in the 1950's and the idea that it deprived people of their individuality

but that's kind of the point, right? because in a way she's representative of American individualism and toxic online discourse. part of her whole character arc is to realize the flaws in how she behaves towards other people. if she really wants to work together with them, she needs to change

it's most noticeable in episode 2. Carol is unable to put herself in the shoes of the other individuals and consider their perspectives and feelings. she feels very self-assured that she's the only one who holds a rational and valid perspective and that the other individuals are wrong

objectively she has a lot of negative personality traits (mainly lacking in empathy) which would make her difficult to relate to IRL

but it's a TV show and flawed characters are interesting to watch because they have so much potential for growth. so, in that sense, yeah ofc she is likeable!

I'm just impressed so far from a film making aspect that there have been so many extras and it seems like that will be the case the majority of the series. There aren't many core characters so far.

happy to share the resources I've gathered on relocating if it would help! I'm looking to move to Japan as well in the long term

I'd also highly recommend language school as an option for a long-term stay to help bridge the gap in finding an employer. Was an awesome experience for me!

In 2023 I visited Keiunkan and the staff there were wonderful! While it is a bit secluded in the mountains, an important thing to note is they do offer a free shuttle service to and from Minobu station. Would definitely give it a recommendation for a peaceful weekend trip.

glad you're having a great time! got a wee bit of fomo not being able to attend it myself

I went to one years ago and the vibes there were awesome!

as I understood it, there was resistance to having links to add friends because of fear of spam if the link leaked to somewhere you didn't want to share it

but this behavior, imo, is even scarier because it just gives whoever receives it the power to add you, no chance to review on either end!
October 27, 2025 at 7:46 PM
and unlike server invites, when you copy that link you don't know

- how many uses is this link good for?
- when does it expire?
- do I get a new link every time I press this button?

UX here could be a lot better. but that implicit accept friend request behavior has got to go!
October 27, 2025 at 7:43 PM
why is this bad? well...

since it's a URL, whoever you share it with can just... send it to someone who wasn't the intended recipient

I was shocked to see "<name> has accepted your friend request" from someone else my partner had forwarded the link to in a DM while testing out the embeds

yeah, that failed acquisition enabled Figma to have one of the most successful IPOs ever. they've still got more than $1B in cash from the break-up fee. what should have been the worst thing to happen to them ended up being the best thing

I think you'll be really pleased with Figma Buzz btw!
October 27, 2025 at 7:32 PM
even when it's for things it wasn't built for, I find myself using Figma for just about anything graphic design-wise these days. occasionally I'll pop open Photopea as a plugin when I need to push pixels Photoshop style

the only Adobe product I still use is Lightroom and I lowkey hate it too

when I do run into problems it's almost always that some library or tool didn't write their package.json scripts in a way that was cross-platform (so maybe use git-bash instead of powershell)

or it assumes POSIX file paths and fails filesystem calls. vocs.dev is one such stubborn example

for managing node versions I use volta.sh which *just works*, no complaints

I've been doing most of my dev work on Windows throughout my 10+ yrs in the industry. It's been pretty great since idk... 2019 or so? I never use WSL, haven't needed it

node-gyp was the biggest headache back in the day

having gone to see it last week, I don't think I would recommend it but not because of Jared Leto (he was.... okay?), but rather that the writing and directing brought it down

opening sequence like a direct to video sequel, Marvel style quippy humor.... it was rather mid

music was good though!
