Yeah this is wrong. There is huge demand but most cities (NY, LA, etc) have severe restrictions on the ability to build family-size apartments. Thus, so few are built and they end up commanding high prices/rent.

Supporters of IZ remind me of the folks still clinging to “three cueing” literacy education despite literally decades of failure compared to classic phonics instruction.

If you increase the costs and regulatory burdens of building housing, less housing is built and rents go up! It’s not that hard.
