Thoughts about space and spirituality that keep me up at night
With so many planets, why haven't we found life? Are you team rare earth, team dark forest, or something else?

Eastern Orthodoxy distinguishes between God's unknowable interior life or Essence, and God's activity in the world or Energies. We only know God through God's Energies. Black holes are icons of God - their interior is forever inaccessible, we can only observe how they impact the world outside.

Every time you look up at the night sky you're looking years, decades, centuries, millennia, and longer into the past. Move your gaze a bit in any direction and you're rewinding or fast-forwarding through time.

With only a couple notable exceptions, the entirety of the Star Trek franchise with its vast distances and hugely diverse cast of species takes place in the Milky Way Galaxy. Our home Galaxy is one of countless billions in the observable universe. And its unknowable how many lie even beyond that.

Despite being some of the most incredible physical objects in the universe - even stopping light and time itself - black holes don't hold a candle to human beings. Made from the very same stuff but aware of their own existence and able to think.
