Hi! I'm an Indonesian moslem researcher working on conservation genetics/genomics of island species (which is most species in Indonesia also).

I'm currently working on population genomics of Indonesian cattles with wild introgressions, also learning the limit of speciation using African mammals.

Hello, Bluesky! We're the IUCN SSC Parasite Specialist Group, a part of the Species Survival Commission! We're just starting to understand the important roles parasites play in their ecosystems, and our goal is to determine the threats wildlife parasites face and to conserve rare and unique species!

I am blessed by great mentors in science so far. Not having to get awkward to get recommendation letters is apparently not the average experience for early career researchers 🥲

I will be recruiting two PhDs for my ERC Project HERDPATH - let's discover out how livestock and pathogens evolved together using #aDNA. Projects will be animal or pathogen focused but will be in dialogue.

Details at my quaint website below. Deadline 3rd October.

Is it just me or "genetic purity" sounds fascist?

I am thinking something along the lines of evolution in the face of interspecies genome exchanges in small populations 🤔 anyone interested teaming up? 👐🏼

Thanks Roberto for the kind commentaries 🥰

I co-lead this study with the bluesky-less Rosie Drinkwater who tirelessly tracked the metadata & the details of the spatial modelling and cannot join the interview because she was on the field. Always a privilege to work with brilliant people 😁

What a busy August it’s been for our group! 🌍✈️
From our Summer Course in Copenhagen to #EPIC25 in Aarhus and #ESEB25 in Barcelona. So great to see so many of our researchers sharing their work through talks and posters!
An inspiring month full of science, learning, and collaboration! 🙌✨

This early announcement is also for you to do some saving from now if you want to attend SMBE 2026 in Copenhagen because the cheapest food in Copenhagen is not really cheap unfortunately relative to its neighbouring countries (:

Surprised SMBE being allowed in such an expensive city LOL but here we are: save the date for #SMBE2026 in Copenhagen on 28 June - 2 July 2026!

If you need visa, apply 2 months in advance the latest; as long as I'm still here I can help nudge the committee if you need anything :D

Shameless promotion from #isba11 - I'll be hiring PhDs to start early 2026 (plus postdocs starting later), using #adna to study livestock and pathogen coevolution, particularly looking at inbreeding and immune gene evolution!

Something we need to grasp is that Establishment power meant imperialism. Imperialism is a system of thought that sees upper class white men as the pinnacle of humanity, with a sacred duty to control the lives of others. What we now call the far right is an extension and revival of imperialism.

Why, you might ask, do the BBC and Sky News, casting their editorial guidelines to the wind, keep giving massive airtime to the far right, while shutting out leftwing voices? Don't their bosses understand the likely consequences?
Only one explanation now remains.
They do.
And it is what they want.
