Hi. We're Sailing New Beginnings (Renee, Bob and Portia). We'll mostly be putting content updates here for people to more easily follow if this is their platform of choice.

We'd love to meet some decent humans, though.
This is where I woke up this morning: 025° 23.101' N 082° 40.090' W

61nmi SW of Marco Island, 67nmi NW of Key West. Spent the morning prepping to leave. Bob's brother intended to come along, but had to cancel. Set off at midday with light winds and smooth seas. Beautiful night.

This is where I woke up this morning: On my way to the sea

Finished up the sewing projects and went out with family one more time. Blue Dog, a favorite spot in Matlacha (which is unbelievably pronounced Matt-La-Shay). Excellent seafood, but T won dinner with the spare ribs.

This is where I woke up this morning: Next to a pod of dolphins

Renee made some progress on the bimini while Bob was working, went out for Mexican and had one too many giant margaritas. (No regerts)

This is where I woke up this morning: Still in Cape Coral, FL

So the road trip was to get our last two big, expensive, boat bits: A desalinator (watermaker) and a life raft. Got 'em back to find that putting them where we intended will be difficult. More fabrication soon!

This is where I woke up this morning: Approaching the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

Yesterday was more canvas work; got the furniture cover done; taught brother to sew a bit; then Tiki Bar!

This is where I woke up this morning: In an impromptu backyard sail loft

Spent the bulk of our Saturday working on canvas projects. Then out for a well earned beer and barbecue.

This is where I woke up this morning: Somewhere in the endless suburban sprawl across the river from Fort Myers.

Throwback to last summer. Bob did the day job while Renee went to do some sewing.

This is where I woke up this morning: Cape Coral, FL

Dug the sewing stuff out of the deep storage to find water had got into the locker. Spent some time cleaning that up before we (and I mostly mean Renee) got to work. First job is a furniture cover for the bride & groom.

This is where I woke up this morning: In twenty-freaking-twenty-six!

Happy New Year, everyone. We had a pretty chill celebration and it was great. Cheers to New Beginnings!

This is where I woke up this morning: Beneath a little dinghy strapped to a little sailboat.

Day job, then celebrating Renee's birthday with our friend and Italian food. Yum.

This is where I woke up this morning: Cape Coral, FL

Quiet day, day job and chores, then Mexican with Bob's brother. On the plus side, he won his fantasy football league for the first time.

This is where I woke up this morning: Next to a waterfront bar, Cape Coral, FL

The plan was to get provisions in the morning and then take the dinghy for an extended spin when it warmed up. Instead, the cat came out of her own accord so we took her for a walk in the park.

This is where I woke up this morning: In a fog bank, Cape Coral, FL

We were landlubbers yesterday, but on island time. Went to a cafe in Matlacha for breakfast, then on to Fort Myers for a suit fitting, and since we were mostly there anyway, why not drive out to Captiva Island?

This is where i woke up this morning: Matlacha, FL

I'm going to be a bit liberal with the "woke up" for the next two weeks or it'll get real old real soon. The argument could certainly be made that this actually is where I woke up, though, as this is where I got coffee.

This is where I woke up this morning: Cape Coral, FL

Okay, so we're not completely alone down here. My brother and his fiancée threw together a fairly quick turkey dinner with many of the fixin's for us (thanks again guys!) and we had a nice, chill Christmas.

This is where I woke up Christmas morning: Far from friends and family, Cape Coral, FL

This adventure is amazing, rewarding, challenging, full of discovery and learning, but it is missing one important thing.

You.

Merry Christmas from Bob, Renee and Portia.

This is where I woke up this morning: Glover Bight, Cape Coral, FL

An actual destination! We made it! A change in our plans was necessitated by the happiest of news as we'll soon welcome another sister-in-law to the family. We'll be here for a few weeks, but posts will continue.

This is where I woke up this morning: LaBelle, FL

Another day of motoring with wind making the locks challenging. Tied up to the city dock which isn't much more than a handful of pilings. We managed to get in, but we probably couldn't if there was another boat.
December 23, 2025 at 8:13 PM
This is where I woke up this morning: Clewiston, FL

Crossed Lake Okeechobee in near perfect conditions, Jimmy Buffett crooning us along. Scraped under the bridge that limits how tall your boat can be. Had to wait for a fishing tournament to finish before entering the marina.

This is where I woke up this morning: Tied to a dolphin near Stuart, FL

They call (at least) 3 things dolphins 'round here. The cetacean, mahi mahi, and a group of pilings. It was the last one we spent the night on. You're meant to tie between 'em, but we don't have enough line.

This is where I woke up this morning: Fort Pierce, FL

🎶One of these things is not like the others🎶

Gorgeous day mostly sailing (with a little motorsailing at the end); even got the tides right at both ends. Had dinner at Angelina's, described as a hidden gem and we'd agree.

This is where I woke up this morning: Port Canaveral, FL

Another slow day; adventures don't pay for themselves. Walked a mile to a recommended restaurant, Grills. Pretty good, but go for the Caribbean rice rather than the coconut sticky rice.

This is where I woke up this morning: Port Canaveral, FL

A quiet day, chores and day job. Then dinner and cocktails with our very fine hosts at the Port Canaveral Yacht Club. Transient boats are welcome here, and if you're in the area, I can't recommend a better place to tie up.

This is where I woke up this morning: Port Canaveral, FL

Just a short hop to set up for our next passage and to catch another launch from a different vantage. Waiting here a few days for favorable weather.
December 17, 2025 at 8:08 PM
This is where I woke up this morning: Across the river from Kennedy Space Center, Titusville, FL

Another unglamorous day of poorly motorboating brought us to where we could finally (sort of) watch our first rocket launch. Up at 3:15am; even from 15 miles away it's impressive.
