3/ If someone is doing something that is not legal, then ok. Don't waste time with endless Mr. Expert saying it's not legal. Establish 1 time and then ask

"Why are you doing illegal things?"

or ask others

"What are you doing to ensure X complies with the law/their oath/etc."

2/ You can avoid defensiveness by asking questions. "You're acting like this executive order is law. Does it match with existing laws Congress passed?"
