I visit a lot of churches whose walls are covered in images of “white” Jesus with blond hair and highlights that would make any Cali Girl jealous.

If the Messiah is depicted (falsely) as a white guy, what is the church communicating about power and who they believe should wield it? Who is welcome?

At the same time more young people are expressing interest in spiritual formation, more religious schools and universities are facing stark financial realities. It is a vicious cycle where churches spend less on youth/campus ministry while also bemoaning the lack of young people at church.

#Elon isn’t a N@zi unless he’s from the N@zi region in Germany. Here it’s called Sparkling White Nationalism. You know…trademarks and all.

Messages of empathy and mercy rarely make one popular with those who are in positions of power who revel in inflicting pain upon others. #BishopBudde #Mercy

One of the benchmarks for dehumanization—denial of healthcare by writ of law…and then threaten the livelihood of anyone who speaks out against dehumanizing behaviors. We have seen how dehumanizing marginal groups plays out and it never ends well.
*Texas doctor & professor points out on tiktok that patients are not legally required to answer citizenship question in order to receive care
*Abbott threatens funding of hospital and university
*Video is removed

These overt threats by politicians to stifle speech becoming all too common.

I’m not sure I’m entirely surprised by Luigi Mangione’s actions. It kind of feels like America is entering its “Eat The Rich” era…which has prompted me to do a great deal of theological reflection on my sympathies for Luigi’s actions.

Ok. If you are involved in church music selection in ANY way, listen up. Madonna’s “Like A Prayer” is not about Jesus or praying. Your church will go viral for ALL the wrong reasons. If you need to know why, find a friendly gay to explain it to you.

Regardless how one feels about gender affirming care for minors, every American should be concerned the SCOTUS is poised to codify into law the pernicious precedent that a government has the right to decide what kinds of medical treatment a person can receive. We warned you: they won’t stop at Roe.

Oddly enough…this was on my Trump Administration Bingo card.
Want my wedding ring? Come and try to take it.

One cannot escape the irony of the #1 movie in the country being the story of a man using his power to convince the populace it is ok to marginalize and disenfranchise large segments of the population for some greater good. Feels like conservatives realizing Homelander…is about them. Be an Elphaba.

In the era of information availability…it is astonishing how much ignorance is out there (I’m looking at you #flatearthers). Read a book. Borrow one for free from your local library. Demand they shelve banned books. Community engagement doesn’t just happen at the ballot box.

Jaime Fox is the one that called the FBI on Diddy? Because Diddy allegedly POISONED HIM?!? Didn’t have that on my 2024 BINGO card…

Confession time:

I HATE Wolverine as a character. I don’t understand why he has been the center of like 10 movies. There are so many more interesting X-Men characters.

Until Deadpool & Wolverine. I finally kinda get it.

Judge away. I said what I said.

Someone said too many people haven’t read a book since high school and it shows.
Comment with the most important book you think people should read. I’ll start with these 2:
1984 by George Orwell—dystopian never felt so real

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand—you gotta know what is informing the opposition.

Controversial yet brave take:

No one asked for another Superman movie. No one is asking for another Batman movie. Fans want to see DC heroes written well with fidelity to the stories we know and love. You know…like the MCU. The blueprint is there. It isn’t difficult.
First trailer for #Superman reportedly releases mid-December

Newly elected congresswoman Sarah McBride will not be allowed to use the capitol women’s bathrooms because of Speaker Johnson’s rule change today. I don’t have sufficient words to convey my anger and disgust with the speaker’s overt attempt to humiliate and dehumanize trans people.

This is why the government should have as little voice in the medical decisions of citizens as possible. One cannot say in the one hand they want less government regulation while on the other advocating for laws simultaneously so vague and so strict as to cause death.

Texas’s legislative agenda for 2025 is an aggressive, all out assault on the LGBTQ+ community which involves a bounty of $5000 for reporting minors who might see drag performances. The way this is worded also puts online content—like YouTube at risk in Texas. Let. That. Sink. In.

One cannot simultaneously love their neighbor and vote for candidates seeking to dehumanize and disenfranchise their neighbor, expecting the neighbor not to question the authenticity of the “love” they are receiving.

I’ve never really understood the way conservative theology sees morality as objective <except> as it concerns slavery. “We can’t judge the past by our current moral values” seems like a great jumping off point into the “subjective” morality pool. Slavery was, is, & will always be evil. (<— period)
