The best election is here (and notorious)—love to watch how friends and family have their own favourites and how many arguments kick off as to what is strategic voting 😆https://www.theguardian.com/environment/ng-interactive/2025/oct/06/australian-bird-of-the-year-2025-vote-now

Me everyday: I write and think for a living

New boss asks for a paragraph about myself to make a formal announcement about the hire. Me:

In "Becoming Trustworthy White Allies," long-time antiracist facilitator Melanie S. Morrison outlines the actions white people must undertake to become partners in the work of racial justice. Read the intro for free now: buff.ly/4WC0oAq
Cover of Becoming Trustworthy White Allies by Melanie S. Morrison. The background features layered bands of warm orange, amber, and gold tones with a subtle textured pattern. The title is centered and spaced across three lines: “becoming” and “white allies” appear in bold white uppercase letters, while “trustworthy” is in a bright yellow serif font. The author's name is in small yellow text at the bottom.

Literally, this is not just an indictment of how bad the Morrison government was at making choices (as the Court strangely hinted at) and how things have marginally improved (it hasn't!!). There is a larger malady that courts must hurry to remedy, rather than shoo everyone to public advocacy.

From the sound of it, the Court has yet again washed its hands off from pursuing the simple radicality of duty of care in the Pabai Pabai v Commonwealth. This is tremendously disappointing but also expected that no Australian institution is ready for a second Mabo moment.

An important discussion paper led by my good friend Francis Nona from QUT. A must read for anyone thinking about Indigenous approaches to climate litigation.
