How does reducing policy induced supply constraints on housing make bubbles worse. Deregulation of the housing market (loose zoning) would keep new home prices close to production costs and help prevent housing bubbles from forming.

Hmm. I would paraphrase the mayor of my city (Jersey City) who pointed out that NYC's failure to build enough homes is partly why the rents surged in JC. He also noted JC rents have stabilized recently because it has allow much new housing to be built.

New Jersey can find a way to continue SNAP benefits. Talk to Gov Murphy and Gov Elect Sherrill. Do not stop fighting until you have a deal on ACA subsidies

It doesn't have to be the young ones. Bernie and Warren are still excellent fighters and experienced.

In this last cycle, a plurality of people put this president in the White House based on lies, selfishness, and fear mongering. But we are still a democracy and the States control the election process. Keeping fighting, help inform people, then vote.

The question is, will Mamdani be more effective at battling local community boards to get *lots* of new housing built.

I agree! I'd also put aside Ezra's comments on the election and focus on his general point that government often is hobbled by well-intentioned but harmful regs. That said, folks should read Dean Baker's Rigged for a broader perspective on achieving an "Abundance" economy.

Understood.
Land use power is delegated to states and states delegate such to local governments. Biden wouldn't have had a housing overdevelopment prevention policy.

Are you saying there's an oversupply of apartments in your suburb. If so, that's a good way to keep rental prices in check. If you just don't like apartments, then please just say so.

Steel, concrete, and elevators allow us to use the scarce space with cities more intensely.

They are a social democracy. Not socialist. Regardless, as you note they are one of the happiest and slightly richer than the US as measured by GDP per capita (PPP).

Check out the Economist, Deanbaker13.bsky.social. Here's a sample of his writing where he discusses the Abundance Agenda.

Patents and the Abundance Agenda
Patent and copyright monopolies redistribute an enormous amount of income upward. We should be talking about them when we talk about an abundance agenda.

Yep. Estimates are that the NYC region needs to build 1.2 million more units by 2040 to meet current and future demand.
