Hell yeah! I find it fascinating that nowadays we even put computers inside our walls

This simple rule-based system feels more natural and productive for me. Most tools fail at this for a small business. They make it needlessly complex, requiring you to manually perform all steps for each new receipt. My goal is to make it less of a hassle.

4) Booking
With our final accounting record in the system the booking is now complete. ✔️
Based on this first booking we can create a rule so that related receipts in the future can be detected and processed in the same way. Both expenses and incomes can be archived that way.

3) Create booking
Now I can pick the matching receipt for this transaction. Based on the date and name I get appropriate recommendations.
There's a little assistant that can apply rules from previous bookings. This is super helpful because it fills in the form and makes it very quick.

2) Transactions
After importing my bank statement (CSV), I get an overview of all the recent incoming and outgoing payments that need to be added. I can select one or more related transactions and create a new booking.

here's a first look:
1) Receipts
PDF attachments from my business email inbox show up here. It recognizes recurring receipts, such as monthly service charges, and tags them based on existing rules. Other receipts for one-off payments can be manually uploaded and named.

most importantly:
1. keep things simple and reliable (deterministic rules over AI-stuff).
2. focus on my own use-case, not solving every possible scenario

requirements:
⁃ keep track of all my payments & receipts
⁃ detect and tag recurring ones
⁃ help me with German tax rules and make boring tasks less repetitive
⁃ overview of monthly and yearly spendings and revenue
⁃ later: prepare tax return for German ELSTER system and yearly profit/loss report

I'd like something that makes accounting simple and sparks joy so that it feels less like a chore.
This brings me to my latest side quest:
👉🏻 building my own accounting service from scratch

Since registering my side business I now need to do my own bookkeeping and taxes. (yay!)
I signed up for some free trials but none of the tools I've tested feel particularly good, like something I would enjoy using long-term. Especially if it means spending 25-30€/month.

wrapping up 2 absolutely essential integrations for Shakeout:
✨smart import✨ from #LighterPack 🪄
boy do people use lots of different formats for their packing lists but the result looks pretty clean (did lots of snapshot testing for this one)

for today I am planning to add the first sharing and collaboration features:
⁃ create public share link for a trip
⁃ invite friends to a trip you're planning
⁃ view and compare gear loadout

#SvelteKit is proofing to be a great choice for this project. I have very little web dev experience but this is genuinely the most fun I've had doing frontend work. #buildinpublic
