I can already hear people saying that its stupid cus most people wouldn't 'want to understand/use computers on that level' but bro we teach calculus and poetry and shit - not because it is literally directly applicable in people's lives - but because it broadens their understanding of the world

I bet im just stuck in that phase of naivete you get growing up about changing the world and such

Plus there is still a teeny tiny bit of hope in my heart that at some point we move onto new machine learning technologies that are less stochastic or rely less on human RLHFing, to mitigate these glaring issues with LLMs

I don't disagree but id add that we also might need more general information literacy; even without AI humans online can be pretty hallucinatory and downright idiotic just like current LLMs

(But at least we implicitly trust humans less online so human misinformation is more combatable)

Personally I hope that it reshuffles the power that current online spaces hold - like maybe if YouTube gets inundated with more and more shit content while they simultaneously make the user experience worse and worse with ads, a new competitor will be able to break into the market
