Figure 1: "Generation of transcriptomic biomarkers used to predict genotoxicants. Biomarker genes are identified from lists of differentially expressed genes in experiments in which cells are exposed to a training set of known genotoxicants and non-genotoxicants. Biomarker genes are identified using statistical methods including supervised learning and curation. Biomarkers can include lists of genes and associated ranks. Verification of the accuracy of the biomarker is made by internal and external validation using a set of test chemicals not included in the training set. Post hoc analysis may include the examination of the linkage of the genes to pathways. Definitions: Hierarchical clustering (HCA); principal component analysis (PCA); nearest shrunken centroid probability analysis (NSC PA)."
