Learning to be a better person through mindfulness and writing. ♥️ technology, Taiwan 🇹🇼
today I finally finished a task that has been weighing on my mind for a long time, becoming this giant monster that felt like it was undoable.

now it’s done. feels amazing.

per aspera ad astra - through hardships to the stars

even when things are hard, remember that the difficulty makes you stronger.

It's incredible the things you can get out of AI when you have good inputs. I tried putting my test results from the Enneagram, 16Personalities test, and Sparketype into chatGPT and asked it to tell me about things I should consider in my professional life.

The report it gave me was incredible.

One of the challenges with staying in the same company for a number of years is that slowly you start to be pulled off into many different directions.

I’ve been at my job 11 years. Today was the first time I was able to do the work I’m good at in almost 4 years. sigh.

remember that your identity is much more than what you do for work or who is a member of your family.

you contain multitudes and can become even more than you are now.

happiness is the best form of resistance right now.

the world is in a crazy place. you can help yourself and the people around you by rejecting the crazy and doing the work to be as happy as you can.

You weren’t meant for a pigeonhole.

Your talents are unique. Your impact should be too.

Serve in a way only you can—because that’s where real greatness happens. 💡 #UniquePurpose #MakeAnImpact

some days are harder than others. today is a hard day for me. I hope you are doing well.

our evenings set up our mornings. mornings determine the direction and tenor of our days.

get to bed at a reasonable time and make some plans in the evening. get up with plenty of time in the mornings.

overheard at home today:

“yesterday I microwaved my sloth!”

I never understand when kids talk to each other.

as the path of our habits takes us closer to the kind of person we want to be, those same habits become easier to maintain and more a part of who we are.

make sure your habits are taking you in the direction of who you want to be.

how do we prove our humanity in an internet full of AI slop? when it is so easy to produce and post things made by a machine, how can we show the world that we are not only human, but achingly human?

maybe I’ll post pics of my ear hair. that’ll do the trick.

just ran across this great quote from Ryan Holiday: "I’m not saying going for a walk will solve all your problems, I’m just saying there’s no problem that’s going to be made worse by going for a walk."

definitely true in my experience!

one of the interesting aspects of AI is that it drives the price of intelligence down in an amazing way. even without AI agents, it is good enough to do all kinds of work for people.

the question is whether you will embrace this tool, or get left behind.

spent this evening playing with cursor, an ai coding tool. holy smokes is it cool!

something as simple as a hat can have a huge positive effect on mood.

context: i’m bald and it was much colder than I thought when i went out. hooray for an extra beanie in the car.

seeking stillness is probably the best thing i do each day. no other practice helps me feel as much peace, relieves stress, and gives a feeling of accomplishment.

just know that it’s not popular. the world isn’t interested in helping you pursue a rich inner life. it is worth it.

We grow fastest when we stop trying to fix every flaw and focus instead on our strengths. Progress feels easier—and it’s more rewarding—when we build on what comes naturally.

Attention autonomy is key to deep focus. Learning to have some control over how and what you think is a skill that can be developed.

Once we have agency over what we think about, we can turn that attention to whatever task we want. It is the ultimate superpower.

after a weekend of record snow and ice, I went out to shovel the driveway and cars out. within half an hour I threw out my back.

I asked my kids to come finish the job. they were amazing, got it all done. *should have asked them in the first place!*

asking for help is a good thing.

sitting here in a blizzard of snow on top of ice, it’s hard not to be grateful for a warm place to live, food to eat, modern utilities, and an internet connection.

yeah, sometimes life is a bummer. if we can remember that it’s also pretty great that reframing makes dark days better.
