Still too middle class for punk, will this be the social platform that fills the screaming void?

Could you give us a review of Satantango, largely on whether reading it will make us cooler and more attractive
salvey1.bsky.social
I met @nerak3l.bsky.social, which is one of the best things to ever happen to me, also found at various points a job, a home, a load of friends
conradhackett.bsky.social
Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?
salvey1.bsky.social
So I suppose I'll have to read Satantango now...
salvey1.bsky.social
Listening to some of it this morning and, obvious 10 year old opinion, but Hamilton really is a work of genius isn't it?
salvey1.bsky.social
I literally had to phone Octopus up and go, sorry what's happened here
salvey1.bsky.social
Yeah, you make an entirely good point, if I thought she could win I'd now feel bad
salvey1.bsky.social
Yes, there is, my energy bill was a pound a month for a good while, best thing she did imo

The Single European Act
Harry Heath
salvey1.bsky.social
No, I think Harry's right, almost no other leader would have fought back militarily as she did
salvey1.bsky.social
Yeah, an uncontested election would have been better for all involved, that said I voted for her because a) Powell is rubbish b) she's going to lose anyway c) I don't imagine the leadership will listen

The criticism that they just hate their opponents, and don't understand their appeal, is usually a problem Labour faces - it is interesting to see it on the other side
stephenkb.bsky.social
I just think, both at an intellectual level (it means you oppose ID cards and then announce measures that require them) and at a 'how politician should present themselves for votes', that Badenoch just viscerally and indiscriminately hates Labour is a bit of a problem.

What is Heseltine, a decent moderate, pro-European, doing in 2025's Conservative Party
adamjschwarz.bsky.social
Heseltine at the Tory conf:

"Fascists of the 30s are back... Trump's language coincides with words here... The immigrant has replaced the Jew as the problem. We must make clear we will never have any part in the populist extremism of Farage... We don't need Trump's mouthpiece anywhere near No. 10.”

Quiz teaches you that all of your cultural interests have value, last night I was able to answer the question 'what clothing items do lucchese make?', because i am possibly the unlikeliest fan of country musician Erin Kinsey

Although the flu jab on its own has made me feel somewhat under the weather
salvey1.bsky.social
This is like my favourite, Stephen King was the first person to have chosen a Rhinanna record (the excellent Pon De Replay)
salvey1.bsky.social
This seems wholly plausible to me and raises my thought about my own reading, which is that I probably don't read enough great conservative literature, and will take your recommendations

Kemi Badenoch claiming Terry Pratchett as her favourite author is wild

This is such a good idea, that I will be rearranging my plans to make sure I can go

Israel at the moment feels like the US, a country I would really like to go to but wouldn't do so under the current leadership
salvey1.bsky.social
That is a good thing to do that I am not good enough at resisting the lure of my phone

Israel seems more important — and less desirable — than ever for British Jews - on.ft.com/3Wp43Zc via @FT
This is a classic great article by @stephenkb.bsky.social actually finding the nuance in a notoriously thorny subject

I think it's really notable that I have no idea what this controversy is about
cjayanetti.bsky.social
if that HIGNFY Euan Blair fuckup had been about a right-winger it'd have had full front-page scandal coverage in the Mail followed by frontpage coverage across the board for the next week, days of "BBC in crisis" headline coverage by the BBC, and parliamentary questions about Tim Davie's future
salvey1.bsky.social
That's what I did, but they're being a lot tighter with it this year

I fear that the next step is going to use this as an excuse to deport people

Got my flu jab this evening, I note that I'm no longer eligible for a COVID jab - so it's good that the illness isn't back in circulation...
