Anecdote isn't data. A You Gov poll from Jan 26 shows 36% of over 60's would vote Reform at the next election. The highest % by age group.

You'll never make pensioners happy and they'll vote in Reform.
February 16, 2026 at 5:23 PM
Nothing changes if the next generation can't escape poverty.
February 16, 2026 at 5:22 PM
Where is what money going? We lost £40bn a yr in tax revenue due to Brexit. Spending on old people through the NHS and pensions accounts for 35% of state spending. We aren't a rich country anymore. We should help all ages out of poverty, but 84% of pensioners are not in poverty.

Pensioners have been protected over families and young people. Look at the triple lock vs cuts to spending on young people. 30% of children live in poverty vs 16% of Pensioners. Source: Joseph Rowntree Foundation

It'll give young people more of a voice, it'll be nice to see Govt introduce policies for young people, they are so often overlooked by Govt.

They also had to contend with ready access to defined benefit pension schemes when they were working. Poor things.
February 10, 2026 at 7:29 PM
I don't get it, why take the risk of having an XL bully. They are too powerful to ever be a pet.

The govt should have sent the letter. Compensation isn't needed for failure to send a letter many wouldn't have read. It's the right decision. We all have to work longer, WASPI women included.
January 30, 2026 at 2:27 PM
The govt should have sent the letter, but that doesn't warrant compensation, it's the right decision. Good on Labour for making the right decision.
January 30, 2026 at 1:27 PM
Could be worse, you could be a young worker today. They will likely have to work for 50 yrs before they receive any state pension.
January 30, 2026 at 1:23 PM
What annoys me is that pensioners think they are getting a raw deal, when they are the most protected demographic. Never a thought about how hard young people and children have it.
January 30, 2026 at 6:07 AM
We are poor due to high healthcare, welfare and social care costs. High interest costs from borrowing and a £40bn loss in tax revenue per annum from Brexit. We have an ageing population, it's unsustainable. It's young people baring the brunt not old people
January 30, 2026 at 6:05 AM
Its the right decision, compensation isn't warranted for not sending a letter most wouldn't have read. If you somehow ignored the changes when they were all over the media, you are disinterested enough not to read a letter.
January 29, 2026 at 4:00 PM
Totally agree, help children and young people.
January 29, 2026 at 3:56 PM
It's the right decision, compensation isnt warranted for a letter that wasn't sent, that most wouldn't have read.
January 29, 2026 at 3:53 PM
I imagine it's cost benefit, eye sight would be worse among over 70's than under 70's. It should also include a fitness to drive test. Can you look over your shoulder for example.

On average the SP accounts for 55% of pensioner income, the average pensioner has an income higher than the minimum wage. Plus they will likely have lower costs than workers, plus other perks and doesn't pay NI. The average pensioner is much better off than the ave young person.
December 2, 2025 at 7:38 AM
Pretty meaningless without including all sources of pensioner income. SP only makes up around 50% of pensioner income in the UK.
November 28, 2025 at 6:30 PM
It was the system todays pensioners voted for. They knew how much it paid out, it baffles me that so many pensioners get to pension age and are surprised by the SP amount. If you want more money in retirement save into a pension when you're working. Don't get to 67 without planning for retirement.
November 28, 2025 at 8:24 AM
We need to do both, ditching the triple lock is fairer for todays workers. Help poorer pensioners but focus on lifting children out of poverty.
November 27, 2025 at 7:09 AM
Removing the triple lock doesn't impoverish pensioners, having a mechanism that increases SP above inflation impoverishes workers. Workers taxes increase to pay for a triple lock, while the SP age is pushed back.

In the UK state pension accounts for 50% of pensioner income vs 90% for many EU countries. researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/SN...

We don't when occupational and private pensions are included.
November 25, 2025 at 2:39 PM
True, but there is other help through housing benefit and pension credit.
