Couple of years ago, the flight crew were quite antsy as we were coming in to land: “it’s an auto-pilot landing, all phones off. No, not in flight mode. OFF!” They were really very insistent.

I live in Romania. My wife is Romanian. My children are both Romanian and British. I cry inside every time I hear this. I rush to the speaker to turn off the audio lest they hear what is being said about them.

If you’re a veggie or a vegan spending time in an Orthodox country, always ask for the fasting (“post” in Romania, where I live) menu. It’s normally available even outside fasting periods. @sturdyalex.bsky.social knows ;)
