I don’t know the candidates well as they don’t represent Oakland (so I don’t vote on the party endorsements in those races), but Wahab and Sakakihara definitely gave the most convincing speeches.

…events to hold policymakers accountable, something we haven’t done since before the pandemic. I missed them that spirit and energy during my time in elected office! Congrats to all the activists and staff who made last night happen.

As former Councilmember (and current project manager for the crisis) Rebecca Kaplan said, “A complaint-based system is inherently inequitable.”

It’s good to see Faith in Action Bay Area back to holding large in person…

The mayor spoke to the need for systemic change, saying “Citations and fines for illegal dumping must lead to real consequences, not just paperwork.”

3 councilmembers (Brown, Gallo, Wang) committed to support an ordinance to strengthen education, eradication & enforcement (Nate Miley’s 3 Es)…

Hard hitting research report delivered by East Oakland native Mary Forte showed how inequitable garbage services are across our city. Two students gave emotional testimony on the impact to our kids.

Mamdani’s speech was a love letter to NYC’s diversity, clearly aimed at offering an olive branch to those who may not have voted for him, andAOC, Bernie and NYC Public Advocate Jumani Williams were also very powerful speakers.

It’s actually a great sign for an elected official to be that visible because it means she’s out there talking to constituents and hearing what’s on their mind. Compare that to Trump who, it was recently pointed out, rarely if ever engages with anyone except the press and foreign leaders.
