Wow. There was a significant CME on the Sun’s far side today (not directed at Earth). This CME was one of the fastest ejections we have seen in the past decade. If it were directed at Earth, this CME likely would have caused G5 (Kp 9) level storming. #heliophysics ☀️

We saw an X2.29 solar flare (the strongest class of solar flare) this morning from AR3912 and a resulting CME is now visible. The active region which created the flare was approaching the west limb during the event, so it was not directly facing Earth. A brief #heliophysics thread.
