Canadian Broadcasting Company is playing a lovely show right now of solstice music: classical, contemporary, some poems and observations. Looks like it will go a couple more hours. https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-272-in-concert

I had a rec league hockey game this afternoon and the rest of the fam was busy so I brought my 7 y/o. He watched for a while from the stands, then played the 1999 PC classic Heroes of Might and Magic 3 on a laptop.

Feels great to be able to bring him along while I do a thing for myself!

RE: https://samfirke.com/2025/12/09/everything-i-learned-about-winter-tires/

Got my winter tires on today, on their own set of wheels. Something compelled me to write this.

Thanks to Mastofriends for all the tips! If you see a minivan rolling on aftermarket rims give me a honk.

And you can use the other test from the 2-pack to find out your kiddo is infected with flu B. Apparently the fact that I had flu A last week does not give me immunity to his flu. Cool.
I'm not enjoying having the flu, but FYI there's now a 3-in-1 at-home test that's like a COVID test but it tests for Flu A, Flu B, and COVID.

That was a chill way to confirm I have Flu A and get my doctor to prescribe Tamiflu ASAP.

I went to Costco today to get a tire fixed (they pulled a nail out and patched it). I shopped while I waited.

In their cars outside the store, and with carts inside the store, everyone was so courteous and patient. And more people were masking than I've seen in months - maybe trying to avoid […]

Thinking about this more: this is going to produce an interesting dataset of hand-labeled slop. Maybe it will lead to advances in slop detection!

[#CarAdvice sought on wheels]

I own winter tires & think I should buy a dedicated set of rims for them. Then at fall and spring swaps, I save money (~$240 savings/yr) and time (the shop should take a half-hour instead of hours).

I looked for used rims on FB marketplace, Craigslist, junkyards ( […]

The burden of analyzing whether anything I see or read online, including in some cases messages from people I know, is slop or forgery is an underrated downside of AI proliferation. The vigilance itself takes effort.
I'm grading student papers, and I can report that one effect of generative AI is that I now suspect everything my students submit. And that's not a good place to be in while grading.

Um…I'm not sure I'm gonna waste time blogging about Atlas.

This is literally the first thing I did with it.

I even hinted it had prompt injection.

Don't use it.

Don't use any "AI" powered browser.
