Jack Smith: "My fear is that we have seen the rule of law function in our country for so long that many of us have come to take it for granted. The rule of law is not self-executing. It depends on our collective commitment to apply it."

I just really need everybody to understand that everything that’s happening in and to the global economy now (and all the businesses and people in it) is the entirely predictable result of the intentional decisions of one guy who doesn’t understand how the global economy works.

With the addled lunacy of RFK, Jr. gutting the nation’s health information network, seems like a good time to read 5 Places to Turn for Accurate Health Information.

I'm as big a USA booster as you'll find.

But why would people from anyplace else *risk* coming to the US right now? What if Customs/Border people at the airport find something about you they don't like?

Good luck to US travel/tourism industry

Can confirm US immigration in Canada looks like a zombie movie, and I got to personally see like 12 security agents and three customs and border people totally by myself.

It's such an elementary point, yet one that escapes Trump, the GOP, and most reporting. Few businesses can do anything in the face of these tariffs except weather them by cutting costs and raising prices. You can't do long-term planning around them, much less make large investments based on them.
really a perfect storm of factors working against the supposed goal of the tariffs - long term planning is fucked because you can’t rely on policies lasting four hours let alone four years, anything you build in the USA might be tariffed abroad, and building the damn factories got way more expensive
WSJ: “.. Tariff-swollen building costs helped to kill a $300 million plastics recycling plant in Erie, Pa., that had been in the works for four years.”

The purpose of these tariffs is to be able to lift them to those who bow down to him and sacrifice their dignity. That is what he did to the GOP, the billionaires, and is doing now to Big Law. Those who stand up will be punished, those who bend a knee and humiliate themselves will be rewarded.

This is an enormous scam designed to get X’s dwindling value and collateralized debts (which likely are imperiled due to Tesla’s crashing stock price) off Musk’s personal books.

I was proud to sign.

I am grateful for the conservatives who signed.

I am angry at and have contempt for the many lawyers who know what happening is wrong and are too cowardly to sign.

History will remember them all.

US conservative, Democratic lawyers urge Bondi to defend lawyers and firms
More than 700 lawyers and legal groups representing diverse viewpoints have signed onto a letter urging U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to defend the independence of attorneys and law firms, as the Trump administration escalates attacks on some of the country’s top law offices.

This is more important than you realize. Bluesky doesn’t downgrade links. Which means news sites will get more traffic from here than other sites.

Which gives them economic reasons to post here first.
Bluesky says it is now sending referral traffic through its "go" subdomain to make it easier for publishers to track the traffic coming from the social network (Sarah Perez/TechCrunch)

The moron-a-thon continues!
Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story.

Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver.

This is what "merit" means to them.
