So much of society has been carved out, there is less inoculation for the online shit storms. Repurpose high streets to give people a place to meet and socialise, and see their local community. But local authorities need to give these places chance to bloom.

I think people sniff at the word artisanal, but I think it’s the way to go. You’re not going to compete with the convenience of online shopping, not the prices, but you have a USP in the specialist and the community. Board game cafes with event space to foster real interaction and local produce.

I’d be interested on the reputational damage from the far right. Guardian readers are likely to have already made up their minds about him, but the support he’s built up by dog whistling might turn on him when he’s denying a lot of the views of the supporters he’s gained through dog whistling.
