Mickey 17 (2025), dir. BONG Joon Ho

Not as tight of a production as his previous movie, but Mickey 17 is a hell of a good time still. Robert Pattinson truly is one of the great living actors, especially when he's doing a weird accent.

Smile 2 (2022), dir. Parker Finn

And even more solid version than the first one, it feels like a Final Destination tribute that actually attempts (and mostly succeeds) at being a good movie.

Smile (2022), dir. Parker Finn

I went into this expecting a kind of trashy but somewhat competent horror movie, and while I did get that, there were a number of things that were impressive about this movie. The camerawork is way better than you'd expect, and the soundtrack is really good, too.

Companion (2025), dir. Drew Hancock

This was a wonderful little surprise. The trailers do not do justice to how funny this is, either, though it is still pretty thrilling at times.

This is Me... Now (2024), dir. Dave Meyers

This should honestly be a lot higher on my worst list this year, but it's so goofy that I can't help but respect it a little.

Winnie The Pooh Blood and Honey 2

I will say, this is an improvement on the first one in that it's obviously more competently made, and the costumes are a little more creative than just a rubber bear and pig mask with overalls. It's still just so incredibly dull, though.

Atlas (2024), dir. Brad Peyton

There was a long cavalcade of shitty, fake action/sci-fi movies this year, and Atlas is probably the worst of them. It's just appalling in how uncreative it is on every level.

Night Swim (2024), directed by Bryce McGuire

Very boring, but the monster and special effects are so bad looking that it can be kinda funny to watch at times.

Uglies (2024), by McG

This movie is funny mostly because it feels like a movie that was supposed to come out in 2012, and even then it still would've felt late to the party, and also how the main characters are supposed to be ugly, yet they're all very conventionally attractive.

Joker: Folie a Deux (2024), dir. Todd Phillips

I can kinda see the nugget of the idea that inspired this movie beyond just capitalizing on an IP, but the end product is such an uninteresting mess that I don't know what happened in the meantime.

Borderlands (2024), dir. Eli Roth

I think probably the biggest indicator of how bad of an adaptation this is that the Cage the Elephant song "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" never appears once in this movie.

Madame Web (2024), dir. S.J. Clarkson

This movie is actually really boring for most of the run time, but then every once in a while it'll hit you with one of the most insane things you've ever seen in a movie.

The Deliverance (2024), dir. by Lee Daniels

It's really cool how this movie seems to be a social experiment on how many times you can turn the dial up on the "Make the worst thing you've ever seen in your life" dial.

Unfrosted (2024), dir. by Jerry Seinfeld

Easily the most embarrassing thing I've ever seen any of these actors in, which is saying something, because Amy Schumer and Jerry Seinfeld are in this.

The Beekeeper (2024), dir. David Ayer

Feels like the Dollar Tree version of The Equalizer, but it's still a decently enjoyable revenge action movie.

Roadhouse (2024), dir. Doug Liman

I liked the bits they had Gyllenhaal being a bouncer, as it leverages his charisma well. The rest of the film kind of drags a bit, though.

The Ministey of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024), dir. Guy Ritchie

I really wish I was more of a Ritchie fan than I am, but this was definitely one of his more tolerable movies to me. It's still not great, but it's better than a lot of the blockbuster action movies this year.

La Chimera (2024), dir. Alice Rohrwacher

A very moving story about how self-destructive grief can be, set to a backdrop of the Italian countryside. It's a really slow burn kind of story, but if you're willing to give it time, you won't regret it.

Blink Twice (2024), dir. Zoe Kravitz

If you've ever seen a thriller before, you can kind of see where this is going right off the bat, and also kinda drags in the middle, but the acting is solid all around, and Kravitz commits to this to a degree that I was impressed with.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024), dir. by Wes Ball

I was a little concerned that the Apes movies might've lost the sauce after War, but thankfully, the monkey sauce is still here. (Wait, monkey sauce?) The main character Noa isn't as big of a personality as Caesar, but I'm still excited.

Probably the best dad movie of the year.
