Looked out the bedroom window a bit ago to see the landscape workers digging up the boxwoods along the sidewalks in our community. This is supposed to save water, and draw fewer American cockroaches, but it just feels like killing everything. I’m worried for the lizards who live here.

Is Barnes & Noble down for y’all, too? Or is the universe just telling me that Christmas shopping is over?

Always nice to see original content on the Orange County subreddit. (Bonus points because original charts excite my wife.)

The LAPD has maintained records, including locations of police activity, for more than two decades to improve “inspection and accountability,” but the department now says the public isn’t allowed to see the underlying data.

Apparently Anaheim’s quiet hours don’t apply to folks who rent out the Packing District for private events.

‘It is the scariest of times’: Margaret Atwood on defying Trump, banned books – and her score-settling memoir
At 86, she’s a literary seer and saint – and queen of the Canadian resistance. So what does the writer make of our dystopian world?

Anaheim does Halloween BIG: a festival, costume contests for dogs and kids, and a sizable Halloween parade. It's an awesome 100+ year tradition! The downside: Since the festival was on the 25th, Halloween has felt done and over for nearly a week now. May have to horrorthon just to raise the spirits!

Just under 2 days left in the @apexmag.bsky.social Kickstarter. While the magazine's four issues for 2026 are funded, if they get $4,000 more we get to read an additional unpublished authors issue of Apex Magazine! I've donated and hope others will do the same. www.kickstarter.com/projects/ape...

My favorite thing about running Ubuntu on my old Macs is that it makes those old Macs (2013 & 2015) quick and usable. My 2nd favorite thing is keeping everything up to date via Terminal. It's become my morning ritual. Could I have done that on MacOS? *shrugs* But I would've been afraid to try.

Apex is funded, but there are still more stretch goals to meet to restore it to its former glory!

Spread the word for more issues (including one specifically for unpublished authors!), new drabble contests, and more.
