Extremely excited me on the sowing machine, for our collaborative project on wheat variety mixtures PreDiMix. With ETH, UZH, IPK Gatersleben and Agroscope.

This fall, I was introduced to the science and art of Ampelography, the description and identification of grapevine varieties through plant shapes and colours. What an interesting endeavour!

A rare sight: no fungicide treatment in grapevine (left) often results in no harvest, and severe damage to the plants. The problem: pathogens introduced to Europe 150 yrs ago. How little has been achieved since then in terms of genetic progress. People prefer Pinot or Cabernet, not Divico or Divona.

Or: Hybrid wheat field right next to a field of Ribelmais, a landrace grown locally for several hundred years. ~100 years of breeding progress in a single picture
