I really don't think people realize how bad this has gotten. I report and delete these comments as soon as I see them, so they never appear in my comment sections but I get them all the time. Some are just mean. Others are obvious scams. They're always by an AO3 account less than 2 days old.
this is wonderful! idk if readers in fandom have seen how comment culture on ao3 has gotten so bad due to bot/AI comments lately, ranging from trolls trying to shame/insult authors into deleting fic to false compliments that lead to art scams.
