Woke up to a malfunctioning boiler this morning. Decided to be a responsible adult and called the boiler people. A man called Garfield helped me fix it over the phone, put the boiler on guarantee and book servicing for it! Feeling very responsible and grown up. And warm. Thank you Garfield.

ooh, not sure why it comes to mind from the description, but I'm definitely going to read it.

Things that went missing in our move last week: trivets, clothes dryers, cat bowls, media player controls, pecorino. Things that have been found: cat bowls, trivets. Things that were found after they were replaced: clothes dryers. Pecorino and controls still missing.

Sitting in my newly unpacked study in new house, thinking how pleasant it will be to start working again once everything else is unpacked, I looked at my to do list and saw I have to prepare two indexes next... Will unpack slowly then.

On a scale of 1 to 13.5, how acceptable would it be to use 'Lol' to paraphrase Mary Astell in a big lecture? Asking for a friend.

That could work. Ask AI 'please cut out 250 random words but rewrite it as beat poetry'. Or 'please add 1000 words and make it sound like a mash-up of a Wikipedia article on grey squirrels and the shipping forecast'. Endless possibilities.

Really hating that even the word counter app I'm using (to count words not on word docs) is trying to get me to use AI. 'Your text might contain writing issues! Check now!' WTF is a writing issue. And what does it have to do with the number of words?

One reason I find analytic moral philosophy difficult is the examples given, or case studies. They never really convey anything significant. Just read one feat. Turkish (fictional) people. It's a bit racist. And the authors get the names wrong.

Today the clouds deprived us of two shows: the Red Arrows were supposed to fly over but apparently didn't, and the red moon may be rising but all I can see is pinkish clouds 😔

Reading Albertine Disparue for the first time and am quite shocked by what happens in chapter 1. After several volumes of not much happening at all this feels almost cruel on Proust's part.

tldr: it's wrong. Don't do it.

Reading through the bibliography for a paper I'm reviewing, I've just discovered a paper of mine I'd no idea I'd written, let alone published. It is very unsettling.

I have paint swatches. I've become the kind of person who is excited about paint swatches. I have coral pink, violet night, and my favourite: enchanted ivy.

this is so pretty. I can't buy plants at the moment because we're moving in a few weeks, and I keep seeing beautiful ones for sale.
