Working on next chapter of the herald and the dog and suffering from cuteness aggression… he’s literally so teenie tiny I need to rip all of my skin off.

Ignoring the chill seeping through his fur and down to his bones, Jayce hopped again - shouldering through the wall of snow. He only made a few inches of progress. Another hop. He wasn’t even past the doorstep. Viktor stared down at Jayce, biting his lip to keep silent. He didn’t want to say anything which could potentially injure the other’s pride. Jayce looked back at him, having to crane his neck to do so. He held out for five more seconds. Then Jayce admitted defeat with a whine. (Okay, fine. You can carry me.) When Viktor lifted him free from the snow, he realized Jayce was shivering. Pitifully so.

Human, cold, and alone; hugging a pillow to lessen the gnawing ache in his chest that demanded another’s touch. Touch that Viktor refused to give him from a single room over. Touch that he silently craved even now. Bitterly, Jayce realized he was just like a dog. One that could be kicked over and over again, only to always come crawling back without fail. Loyal to a fault. Desperate for affection. It was shameful. He was beyond upset with Viktor. And yet, despite that, Jayce couldn’t help himself. He buried his nose in the fabric and took a deep breath - melting into Viktor’s instinctively comforting scent. With his eyes closed, he could nearly pretend things were fine. If only for a moment.

ive read ENOUGH of jayce taking 100% of the blame for jayvik's fallout and having to grovel for viktor's forgiveness... it's viktor's turn to be the fuck-up that has make up for his mistakes!!

The provider. Never the other way around. He understood why, of course. Viktor was dealing with enough already. He shouldn’t have to be burdened with any extra baggage while actively dying… Except, it wasn’t that he wanted to be there for Jayce and simply lacked the emotional bandwidth to follow through. That sentiment alone would’ve been enough. He just- Viktor didn’t care in the first place. Whether he realized it or not; Viktor saw suffering as a competition. One he was winning through losing. Jayce’s issues were trivial in comparison to his own. So he dismissed them. He cared for Jayce, sure. That was undeniable. At this very moment, there was a Viktor dooming timeline after timeline in the hopes of a better ending… but what was that affection worth, if it wasn’t a helping hand or shoulder to cry on? When Jayce was falling apart under the weight of politics, stretching himself thin to also search for a cure, Viktor was simply annoyed he wasn’t doing more. And Jayce agreed. By the end, he was willing to drop everything for Viktor. Except that everything was too little too late. Thinking back on that moment, of Viktor turning an uncaring eye and walking out, filled Jayce’s insides with dry ice. He never asked for any of this. Not the spotlight, not the politics. Why couldn’t Viktor see that?

They’d swung by a pet store on their trip here - specifically one which sold clothes for vastaya. Tragically, there wasn’t much variety. Everything was rather… cutesy. The clothes weren’t tailored towards vastayas themselves, after all. No, they existed for people who enjoyed playing dress-up with their ‘pets’. The selection consisted purely of dresses, onesies, and gimmick shirts due to that. Jayce vetoed the first two. That left them with his currently selected top. Embroidered on the off-white front was the text ‘THE SNUGGLE IS REAL’ in black, bubbly letters. It was the least humiliating thing they could find in Jayce’s size. Thankfully, the pants were normal - albeit an ugly plaid pattern. “Perhaps we should commission you something custom.” Viktor muttered, partially to himself. “It’s fine, I’ve settled for worse.” Jayce waved him off, then turned his attention to their surroundings, “Woah. I can’t believe this is all for us.”

okay little vastaya Jayce has been RATTLING in my brain ever since I mentioned him in chapter 3 of "don't let them cut your tail". had to draw him and let the demons out, so I included some extra worldbuilding as well.
