My baby asked for a Goth Art Panda cake for their eighth birthday. Guess what they're getting? I'm especially proud of how Goth Art Marzipanda himself turned out. I didn't know I could make such a cute panda.

I've had intermittent trouble with a pinched nerve in my hip ever since I got an injury at Burning Man twenty stinking years ago. And six months of Pilates has completely fixed it. No pain, no flare-ups, just plain gone.

The thing that kills me about the fetishizing of white (hi, Pantone!) as tasteful and classical is that it comes from people fixating on Greek statues as the pinnacle of elegance, and they were actually painted in all kinds of screaming-bright colors and patterns and the paint just wore off.

Cranberry curd tart with walnut-almond shortbread crust and meringue stars.

I turned off Smart Features in gmail a couple days ago and it buried me in spam as punishment.

But it turns out that gmail was sending REAL messages to spam all along. I'm finding five year old messages that say things like "Can I please have a signed bookplate for my student whose sister just died

Okay this is a wild longshot: I'm thinking I'd like to do an interdisciplinary phd in creativity, but it would have to be funded--I'm not in a position to hemorrhage money--and I can't leave NYC. Unsurprisingly, I'm not finding anything on the web. Is there something I'm missing?

I opted out this morning and google mail responded by flooding my inbox with over 7,000 old spam messages. It was comically gross.

I'm feeling despondent over my writing career and wondering if I should go back to school for... something.

I got my covid and flu shots yesterday and I feel thoroughly lousy. Buuuuut you know what feels worse? Yeah.

(I'm reading this lovely eerie book in bed.)

My baby wants a Goth Panda theme for their 8th birthday party and a cake that looks like it's covered in paint splatters with a Goth Panda on top and it shall be so.

It's my birthday and my kid has been sick with weird unexplained dizziness for two weeks, and after two pediatrician visits and one ER all we really know is that she doesn't have a brain tumor--yay, as far as it goes--but anyway I'm not exactly feeling festive.

There is precisely one New Yorker hotter than Zohran and that is his wife Rama holy cats.

If NYC does secede and become an independent city-state, then we could legally change our name to New York Fucking City, just saying.

It really was the K-Pop Demon Hunters Halloween; not just the ubiquity of Huntrix and Saja Boys costumes but Golden blasting through the streets everywhere. What does it mean that such a hopeful song has become the theme music of such a grim era?

There was an apocryphal story I heard in college; I can't vouch for its truth. But it was said that a group of students got drunk and wandered out of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art with a Picasso. The next day they panicked, then got caught trying to put the painting back.

Date night in Chelsea. (We went to Viola's Room by Punchdrunk--pretty amazing--then drifted to a random cocktail bar on 8th Avenue.)

New York City is out in force.

It REALLY would have been smarter for them to completely ignore No Kings, or at least to pretend to ignore it. Their naked panic shows that we have far more power than we knew.

See you soon, friends.

Wouldn't miss it for the world! See you all on Saturday.
Rep. Pat Harrigan: "This No Kings rally -- that's the blue hair, anthropomorphic experiment that's gonna happen up here in Washington DC."

I have a sick feeling that the only real question at this point is whether the US breaks apart with extreme violence and loss of life, or relatively peacefully.

Okay I did it, I got really good tickets for Wicked for my kiddo's 8th birthday. I'm so used to being broke that it stresses me out to spend that much money, but the fact is I'm doing better this year and it's okay.
