When we were moving from DC in 2020, I posted on our local listserv asking if any neighbors with green thumbs wanted to adopt two plants I'd nearly killed. A woman I didn't know emailed saying she'd take them. Now every year or so she emails me an update on how they're doing 😭
Email saying: "You might not remember me, but hopefully you remember your plants. You kindly gave them to me when you were leaving Glover Park and I said it would take good care of them. I just had to take pictures and send them to you because this is the first time that the Christmas cactus has ever bloomed And it’s been four years! I think putting this beauty outside all summer long really helped it to get healthier and here’s the result. The other one has been happy all along. I also moved out of Glover Park, selling my house in April 2023 and now live [redacted] just on the other side of [redacted]. It’s a great apartment and I think I moved just in time as it was pretty hard to pack up and do it all. I hope you and your family are doing well. Happy Hanukkah. Regards, J." Not at high altitude. It's usually when it's being cooked in something other than plain water. Tonight I tried to make a recipe from Ruby Tandoh's cookbook and it was still not cooked through after like 35 minutes even though there was a ton of moisture.
