Time to reflect on our retreat! In January the students of the UCL-Wellcome PhD programme in Mental Health Science were lucky to be able to get together again to share wisdom, relax and reconnect with each other. We wrote about our experience on our blog: www.mentalhealthscience.org/blogs/ucl-we...

When I approach a new task with curiosity, I always find myself surpassing what I thought I could accomplish, and that productivity simply makes me feel good. The more productive I am, the more competent I feel, the more motivation I gain, and the more curiosity builds. It’s a cycle!

In both cases, I regret procrastinating and wish I had started earlier. A simple mind frame change from “I’m overwhelmed” to “I’m curious” helps me get over that initial anxiety around the unknown.

I sometimes feel overwhelmed with steep learning curves. Because of the pressure I put on myself, I can end up procrastinating forever. When I finally muster the mental energy to begin, I either realize that 1) it wasn’t that bad or that 2) the work is going to take much longer than expected.

Was great attending the MQ and DATAMIND workshop on using NLPs in mental health followed by a data science meeting discussing the strengths and challenges of data linkage. Thanks @tom-metherell.bsky.social for capturing my first poster of my PhD.
