I really loved this quote: "It sits in my back pocket wherever I go and lies next to me when I fall asleep.” This perfectly summarizes the faux comfort we get from our phones and social media. I think that’s what makes online threats & objectification so disorienting. (1)

I always find straight relationship/family dynamics really interesting to look at, esp as someone who’s only ever been in queer relationships. My current partner is transmasc genderfluid and Im always proud that our identities are such a defining part of our life together. (1/9)

My immediate thought when reading the zoom article, starting with the first point of men preferring custom backgrounds, was that women might not prefer them because they need to assert themselves as an afab person in the corporate world. As the article states, these work spaces are masculine (1/?)

In response to the Psych Today article~ I always wonder if when teens say in surveys they’re not doing smth, if they’re just lying?? It’s always my first thought with stuff like that lol esp if the article literally states teens/young adults later denied they ever signed the 2000s virginity pledge

I loveloveloved this week’s stuff on hyper-femininity. It made me think a lot +l It came at the exact same time my little cousin turned to my aunt and said, “there are no girl presidents in this book.” I feel like every day lately is a weird time to be a girl (warning: this got sooo long lol) (1/?)

Reading the energy drink article 10 years after it was written was p interesting. At first I was :/ bc imo, the target demographic for energy drinks has shifted from masculinity/men. Personally, the first time I saw anyone other than my *dad* buy energy drinks was (1/3)

Really looking forward to the reading this week as an examination of the constraints that “masculinity” puts on society. I see so often people complaining abt the male loneliness problem, then immediately see this “well men set that system up” fired back. (1/3)

Intersectionality feels like such an important discussion to have rn post-election. ive seen sm experiences shared lately in reaction to the new admin & i feel like sm of it would benefit from a look with intersectionality. esp in ideas of race & gender, specifically with white queers or women (1/4)

Examining the issue of racism in dating apps thru a 2020 lens is so interesting. I feel like that moment in time creates such a specific place for these discussions to occur, and it’s interesting to compare the circumstances to other times in the same decade

before the reading, i’d never known about ethnicity filters on dating apps. What i found more interesting than the removal was the reasons that the filters mightve helped POC. the so-called “potential benefits” weren’t smth I wouldve ever considered initially

The Euphoria article stuck out to me a lot! I actually dropped Riverdale back in 2019 when the whole “Dark Betty” plot got too weird, leading to the scenes of the high school student stripping in a bar. It was just too much imo lol (1/?)

Reading about the gender gap in math scores, it makes me wonder if boys are more susceptible to influence than girls are (in these rich, white, suburban areas) due to more positive reinforcement. I grew up in a similar area. throughout childhood, little boys received much more positive (1/?)

I found the "Female Husbands" article really interesting. It was something I hadn't ever heard much about. Specifically, the parts about defining marriage throughout history and how it developed into definitions of a relationship between a man and woman (1/5)

the idea of "opposite sexes" is so interesting to really think about. Ive never given much thought to what that phrase implies and the conditions it sets up for masculinity v. femininity. Connecting this to questions of why we establish a gender binary and why it matters to some more than others

I like starting off the weekly notes with the quote from the little girl about eyelashes on drawings. Ive always found it interesting that eyelashes distinguish male or female characters since everyone has eyelashes lol
Very interested in how this will be explored ☺️
