#skystorians not attached to an institution. How do you cope with copyright issues for things you have researched on FMP for example or map images? Trying to work my way through the minefield! I was always told that as long as it was cited it didn’t matter, but not sure nowadays!

Lovely day on site today! Baby Shrew found in the wheelbarrow, a newt under a stone in a post hole, kingfisher flying the canal, and 2 fly pasts by WWII planes! There was some archaeology as well, though this was my only find of the day!
A flint flake with some of the outside on. It was translucent when held up to the light and on the reverse has a curve with a very sharp edge!

Well, that was an exciting first day back! Who had apocalyptic rain on their bingo card?! That has to go hand in hand with the first day back earthquake back in 2021! #firstdayofschool

I now have a new history project. I told my youngest yesterday and he said he would help me with research. So we started last night, all in the name of research of course, by visiting 2 of the establishments. I think we are going to enjoy me writing a book on local pubs!

That is it. After 3 years my book has finally gone to the editor. The story of one mill, 1066 to 1970. Through civil wars, floods, fires it finally succumbed to the greatest threat of all - corporate dominance. Now a celebratory glass of wine and onto the next challenge! #LocalHistory

Thank you! It worked eventually and has now flown off to the Editor for his approval! Celebratory wine and a quick break before I get another task tomorrow!

Hard to believe but this small babbling brook becomes a raging torrent. Newspaper reports from the mid-19th century point to the disasters it creates. Houses on one street had special blocks on the doors as flood barriers. Earlier this year it made headlines as people were evacuated.

I think consistency. Only State schools have to teach it, as with everything else. I do like Scotland’s way of doing it, not just schools but every household. The first time I saw their household bits was in a holiday cottage about 7 years ago. It was a fascinating read!

Not really a #OnePlaceStudy day today as I am desperately trying to finish my book on the local (now demolished) watermill. Word processors not playing ball today. Need to send it for editing on Friday! Eeekkk!

Good point he made. Just as well it has been in the curriculum for quite a number of years. It was interesting trying to teach Rule of Law and Parliament whilst BJ prorogued and walked all over the system. The comments from 10 & 11 year olds is now funny to look back on.

I love being on the opposite side of the tow path of the Grand Union. So lucky to have a cafe on the old Wichello Wharf in Linslade. The cygnets came to say hello!
Two swans and 6 cygnets on the Grand Union Canal. In the background a green barge with red paint around the windows, tow path and the ramp access from the road.

What a great way to spend Bank Holiday Monday! Out in the garden, swinging on the seat, researching my #OnePlaceStudy

in the last 40 years and was rediscovered again last week. I now have it. From land sales to court rolls to the dissension running rife, the story is there to be told. Another project has found me!

They evidently needed the room the records were in so deposited them in the cellar. 1947 a flooded basement and a lot of damaged records, mainly 12th and 13th century. It was then decided to catalogue and safely deposit them. The Catalogue came into our history Society’s possession sometime

In the 1800s the Manor was purchased by Colonel Hanmer and when he had built Stockgrove Park, the records were moved from the Leigh family home in Shropshire to Bedfordshire. This was some undertaking in itself! Unfortunately, 100 years later and war struck. Stockgrove was taken over by the Army.

In big old houses there used to be a special room, the Muniment Room. In there the records of the Manor would have been kept and updated. I was just given the Muniment catalogue of the Manor of Leighton Buzzard. The records are from the 14th century to the 19th, catalogued in the 1950s.

I have been teaching 12-13 year olds to use Blender for the last 5 years. Seeing their faces, and hearing their whoops of delight, when they use a new tool to create an image, or make it move, is magical. AI is all about instant gratification, not mastering a new skill.

This sort of comes into my #OnePlaceStudy as they were remanded at Linslade Court House for trial at Aylesbury. Then in Bucks, the robbery was on the Linslade border, so extra police were stationed there throughout the search. I will be writing about the Court House and Police Station very soon!

At 3 am #OnThisDay in 1963 a London gang used a fake signal in Buckinghamshire to stop the London-bound mail train in what became known as the Great Train Robbery. Fingerprint evidence from the gang's hideout features in our #CM150 exhibition (September tickets now available). #OTD #truecrime
Two Cologne or aftershave bottles with small round fingerprint labels on them.

Out for the day in Aylesbury, with my youngest, as he has a job interview. Introduced him to a Wimpy! Had no idea they were still around!
A lovely frothy cappuccino with 'Wimpy' written in chocolate!

Thank you! I couldn’t see anything on the website so I have sent an email. We were wondering if it was something to do with travelling sales!

Any brick experts know what this is? It is fairly small and has a lovely pattern on it! #OnePlaceStudies

It was absolutely buzzing today, considering it was pouring with rain! I know it has taken a lot of organising by volunteers. The place was in a state after standing empty for 2 years. However, it was buzzing today, despite the rain! We had well over 100 visitors.

Today is a weaving workshop and tomorrow Lego. I am spending my first weekend of the holidays manning the stall!!

Some of our committee have been really busy setting up a history display. The site of the store was once a Rothschild House. It was built by Ferdinand de Rothschild as a hunting base until Waddesdon Manor had been completed. There are traces of the house still around.
